Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed
Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

Something I've been thinking about, and wondering what the rest of you think... If you could have either a brand new ZR1 (when released next year) or the $100,000 cash to spend on your C3 (or another Vette), what choice would you take?
Personally, with that kind of money, I think I would do a couple of things...
- Make some major improvements, clean ups and restoration steps on my '74
- Then, either/and/or
- Buy another C3 that I could modify to my preferences (I just can't bring myself to modify the '74 since it is so close to stock)
- Buy a C1 that I could take to shows and special occasions. I saw a 59 at a show last year that I fell in love with. Just a beautiful car. I used to think a C2 would be great (and it would), but I think the mid-late C1's are probably the way I would go if I could afford a car to not drive
- I suppose I might get a C4 ZR1 instead and DRIVE it!
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

If you bought the new ZR1, you'd need to have at least that much more saved up for future repair bills on it.
If this is a choice between the car, or the cash, I'd have to say "Cash, Please" ! I'd be buying "new" drivers for Mama & me.

Vette(s): My 1974 Vette sold last August 2014. I am still willing to show up to events and local gatherings if anything happening No new vette yet.
I would take the 100K finish my '74 coupe, go out and buy another silver '74 with same oxblood interior only this time make sure it is convertible. Then i would do it up and save the rest of the money for a trailer to tow them around in to long distance shows. Have a pair of '74 vettes a coupe and a vert both same colors stock with all numbers matching. Hell yeah. that would be nice.

I'd put about 30k in to my '79 and do it up!
The remaining $$$ would go for a bigger garage that I could actually do more than barely open the door in. It might even have 'lectric too if I really got crazy.

simple formula :
Buy new - instant depreciation as it leaves the lot.
Buy appropriate old - appreciation over time.

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks.
#2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
I would take some of the money and put a nice paint job on the Poop-On.
Then I would put the rest of the money into investments for my even older age when I retire.

I've got many more dream cars I'd like to have for under $100K besides Corvette, such as a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang, any Sunbeam Tiger, any Austin Healy 3000, a '39 Chevy coupe hot rod, a 55 Chevy, a 77+ Aston Martin V8 Vantage, any DeTomaso Pantera, a 72 Iso Griffo. I'd also like to have a whole bunch of much cheaper cars, like a Datsun 240Z, 77 Toyota Celica, any Opel GT, any BMW633, 67-72 Chevy truck, and the list goes on and on and on.
$100,000 cash then I would have to think do I want the '76 to have a complete restore to brand new or complete custom resto rod. You could do so much to a C3 with that kind of money!
