Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I saw a C5 about 4 cars behind me on the highway this morning (while driving my 79). As I exited the highway, I purposely slowed down enough that he would be able to pass right by me so I could wave. |wavey|

He didn't even glance over in my direction!!!

What the hell? Why don't all Vette drivers wave?
Do they not care? Do they not know about it?

How can we make all Vette drivers aware of it?

I don't know what they're thinking babe. I would say that alot of C5 drivers don't have their Vette to have fun with, to them it's just another ride to get around. Next year they might be in a bmw or something. Maybe they're just trying to drive without some idiot changing lanes without looking. I've had that happen. People don't turn their heads I guess when they look. Now I know how people on motorcycles feel! I've done the exact same thing as you Adam, slow down getting off the freeway. Then no wave, not even a look. I've been into this Vette thing for a long time. I even signed a letter to the plant about putting "the wave" in the front of every owners manual. That hasn't worked.... yet. lol

Here's a funny one for you guys: I was driving to Steve's pad one weekend. Doug, who's got a red Z06 and a good friend, well, was in his daily driver, a black Camaro. He says he pulled up next to me on the freeway and waved, but I didn't even look at him. He said I looked at the car or maybe through him, but not at him. I didn't wave or anything! lol He just called me a stuck up (b word here) Vette chick!

Vette(s): 1971 coupe. Fully restored, numbers match
We've noticed that it's usually the C5 owner who doesn't wave. The C5 owners who do wave are usually people who have owned Corvettes in the past and can really appreciate them. We were in Bowling Green for the 50th and parked in the lot of the museum and black C5 parked next to us. I said hi to him and said, "another black sheep" and he said "as a matter of fact I am" and kept walking. It was early, even before the museum opened and not many people around. Oh well.

I think it is really the individual, not the generation of the car. Recently I've had a lot of C5 (and even C4) drivers have their hands out the window before I do. Maybe its the phase of the moon...!!! |confusing|

It really depends on what's happening on the road when the other vette is spotted. I usually have a tough time because I'm devoting my full attention to the road & by the time I see the other vette its already gone past. |sad|

I get the lowest wave response rate from C5s & C1s. I can't drive the 74 because the wheel is about 5" from my chest. Hopefully a tilt/tele will solve that problem. |biggrin| It would be nice if GM would add a section about the wave to the owners manual or provide some kind of orientation to new vette owners.

I think it's a little of both.Example My tranny went out in my 1980(Leaving me stranded on the side of the road).Three C5 owners drove right past(one pointing and laughing).Nice!!!A tow truck finally came and low and behold a guy in a 76 stingray stopped to see if I needed any help(mind you a tow truck was already there)PRETTY COOL!!!I think alot of the time some people think they are better than you(because their car is newer).Tranny is fixed now and I took it out last weekend and the wave was alive and well....Everyone was feeling the nice weather(even C5 owners)...I feel it is mostly the person not the car... |wavey|

I agree with Tony, it's more the person not the car. I have had alot of c-5 owners wave and there's 1 c-3 owner who never WAVES! he looks right at you and keeps on goin! |frown| |wavey|

I agree with you guys, most of the C5 people seemed to be stuck up or too good for us guys in the C3. I still wave. I can't wait to have my SAV THE WAVE plate on the front of my C3. |thumb|
