So you drove this Vette? How did the engine look? How does it look under neath? If you guys are serious about it and he has paperwork to go with it, offer him $9,500 and see what he says.

Yep, Mike & I drove it. He does have alot of paperwork on it. Not everything, though. I didn't look underneath. If we decide to go further with this, we'll have him take it to the guy who did the interior of our 77 (if 767REP reads this, I mean James) for a buyers inspection. The engine looked good but I'm no judge. It looked like a clean engine.
What about Verts in the NW? This would be a daily driver...how do you keep the top looking nice? Is there some kind of water proofer you can put on the material?

Hi Karen, be sure and let James look at it. Another thing is ask the owner if you can wash the car, sounds stupid but sit in it and have Mike hose it down good while you watch for leaks. I just bought an 85 and found out seals are really expensive, full set of GM seals 1000.00 bucks.Buy the way most people put down C4's, so far I love mine.
kkfinch,
I had my '79 out for a ride today and shared "the wave" with a white colored C4 Vert with a black top. And I thought what a sharp looking Vette it was!
I hope this works out for you. If not, it wasn't meant to be.
Is there a hard top option for the C4 Verts? Or an Aftermarket hard top offered?
I don't know but thought I'd raise the question.

Karen I have both white and black vettes. In my eyes the are both dirty all of the time. Black shows light colored dust and white shows road grime easily.
Either way I love both colors. As far as your question concerning top care here is a Link with some helpful information. I use Raggtop on mine and it does a nice job. I am picky about what I use because it is a white top and I find them harder to keep clean looking.
Good Luck with your search!
He said the overdrive went out on the transmission because the lady that owned it before him drove it in overdrive all the time (and drove up a lot of hills to where she worked.) Would that damage overdrive (where's Joel; I know he'll know)?
Not...the trans would downshift automatically if needed. There is an old wives tale about driving in O/D all the time, but that's all it am....an old wives tale. The real reason it is ever suggested to NOT drive in O/D is when pulling a load, or driving in da mountains. It simply keeps the trans from up/down shifting all the time, which is more of an aggravation than a durability issue.
I'm sure the trans took a doo-doo simply because it's not the best design they ever had. The later ones, from '97 up, are a little better, but they ALL(700 & 4L60-E) have issues with the sun shell stripping, and the rear planets melting. Again, a design flaw from the engineers(or bean counters more likely). Aftermarket parts will solve these problems for good.
I wouldn't worry too much about the trans having been repaired before....it's something that will happen to all of them, sooner or later. The trans on my '85 has been done, and it only had 58,000 miles on it at the time.

So, Todd, did you post any info on this site about your new addition? If so, send me a link to the forum. If not, why haven't you told us????
Joel, thanks for the info! I hate those old wives tales!
I do like the looks of the C5 better (exterior) but I was surprised how comfortable this C4 was. The only problem I had was getting used to how much pressure to put on the accelerator. Man that thing GOES! It really wants to go FAST! I didn't have any issues getting in and out but remember, I'm vertically challenged! Prices on C5s are still too high for our boat-sapped budget (which, by the way, is STILL NOT DONE!
)

Well, I would get used to that accelerator pressure quickly to convince your "honey" that the car is just what you need....

I just had some trouble getting out of the one I was in. Getting in was easy! I really like the white paint on that C4 body style....very sharp....keep us posted, ok?
Hope that boat get done fast!
