Topic: 2006 Gathering Location (round 2)
in Forum: Annual C3VR Member Gathering
Not to sound selfish or anything but I think this gathering should be on the west coast. After looking at the last issue of Sharkbites, did anyone else notice that all the meets were on the east coast or atleast east of the Mississippi I don't think anyone from the west will drive as far as the east coast or even Kentucky for a meet, but I could be wrong.
I think Las Vegas would be a great place for a gathering, talk about stuff to do, do I need to list it all
I'm not sure but i think there is a big Corvette show in Vegas each year that we might be able to do our gathering in conjunction with, orrrrrrrr how about around SEMA time frame
My second choice would be the Napa area of No. California as Mark suggested, thats an easy 10 hour drive for us boys from the north

BEING OUT WEST I PREFER LAS VEGAS ALSO. GOING TO BE THERE FOR THE NATIONAL FINALS RODEO WEEK AFTER NEXT. PULL MY BOAT DOWN THERE (LAKE MEAD) AT LEAST A COUPLE TIMES OF YEAR. I'LL DO IT THEN AND FEED EVERYBODY FISH TACOS ON THE BEACH. I CATCH STRIPERS, (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH STRIPPERS) BY THE BOAT LOAD.
JimG,
do you think you could arrange a treasure hunt for our build sheets?

Actually, don't discount Hank's suggestion of Cleveland. There are more things in this area then most folks would believe. As well as what Hank already said, there is a very big car museum. In a 50-60 mile span you can go from Big City, to Amish countryside. There is a tremendous amount of history and historical sites. There are national parks. Presidents homes and memorials. The rubber industries and their story. Inventors Hall of Fame. On State Rd in Cuyahoga Falls (25 mi south of Cleveland) there is over 100 places to eat in less than a 2 mile span. We have many hotels and motels. Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie boat cruises. These can include dinner on the boat. The Goodyear Blimp Hanger that can contain 4 football fields. Blossom Music Center. The Ford engine plant. Chrysler Stamping plant. Go just a bit east and the GM Lordstown assembly plant. All of the auto places host tours. I could fill pages of what there is in this area. Of course there also the homes of Hank, Captn Bill, Charlie and LeAnne, and myself. How can you miss those? (if you blink you can miss mine)
And if the timing is right we could recreate a event from the past that would be a BLAST. The National All American Soap Box Derby is held in Akron. Several years ago they had a fleet of Corvettes drive the racers, special guest, celebrities, and dignitaries down the track at Derby Downs. Once the Vette got to the bottom, the rider got out, the Vette went around the track back to the top, and brought the next person down the hill. When Chevrolet dropped their sponsership this stopped. But there are plenty of Corvettes in the Tire Town Corvette club as well. Between them and us we would have a huge number of Corvettes. Heck, we could do it alone. Then C3VR would be in the national news. This means we could also be in the Soap Box Derby parade through Akron.
There are many major hightways in and out of the Cleveland/Akron area. Easy to drive to from any direction. In addition cost of living, and thus othere things, is among the lowest in the country. So it's more cost effective than many other areas.
Speaking of large automotive museums, has anyone heard of the LeMay collection? Harold E. LeMay amassed the largest privately owned collection of automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, other vehicles and related memorabilia in the world. And, they are building a new museum to house it all right here in Tacoma, WA. I wouldn't be against doing a gathering there. And hey, I'll do all the leg work to set it up
By the way, Harold LeMay built this collection out of his trash collecting business, so don't let anyone tell you you can't make good money collecting garbage

Though I won't be able to attend, I think San Diego would be a great site for a C3VR meet. Like mentioned above, the weather is perfect almost any time of the year and there are a lot of interesting things to see and visit there. The left coast members need to time too.

Sounds like there is a ten year plan among all the suggestions, all really great places.
Simply for the record, (since someone appears to be counting), my vote would go for San Diego. I have family there so I admit I am biased. In fact, we will be there day after tomorrow for the Thanksgiving holidays. The scenery is incredible (Cabrillo National Park!), the scenic drive up Hwy 101 is perfect for a caravan, as far as you want to go (San Francisco Day Trip?), and then there is the access to Mexico where a 25 mile drive down a beautiful coastal highway will take you to ground zero, the mecca of pacific lobster houses, in the known universe, where you can feast away with mexican beer, counterfeit Cohibas and bargain for great Mexican silver jewelry in the plaza. It's a great caravan trip. These activities are just scratching the surface. I think S.D. is one of the neatest places in the US, but again, I am biased.
