Topic: 2006 Gathering Location (round 2)
in Forum: Annual C3VR Member Gathering

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Not to change the subject because I don't want to highjack this thread nor fill it with other subject clutter, but do we have a date (or month) in mind?
[/QUOTE]Wyoming......Beautiful area for the ride! Would like to move there. I haven't seen anything on a solid date & if it was posted, I missed it. I'm getting old.
Excellent idea on the poll.

IF...and that is highly unlikely ...I would vote for Vagas
I still am in favor of having 4 5 or even 6 REGIONAL "weekends" Than
could be all held the same weekend or on different weekends...
Just not about to drive more then 4-500 miles in any of my C3's...
BUT did I tell you I LOVED the weekend in Hershey...?
Rain did not help BUT the people made the weekend very Sunny
Guess I did ... more then once in fact !...

Well, I've been out of pocket for a while, but I know my wife would not come. So it would be me that would come out.
I know when we start talking long distances, them most will rule out driving and it comes down to a plane ticket and for most that is probably cheaper then driving anyway at least if we pick a place that the cheapest airline frequents the most that is a good place to go do things.
So I would probably pick: Dallas TX and hold it during the time of one of the NHRA events. Plus since we're mostly a bunch of guys, there are Baseball, NFL football, and NBA games that be attended.

You would be suprised the number of wives that came this year including mine. More wives will come than you may think! So whatever location is chosen should include something that all can enjoy!
One option to driving your Vette long distances is to put it on a trailer. No one wants to have a trailer queen but it is a great way to avoid deadhead miles on your car. My rule is anything over 250 miles I trailer it. It is no queen. I am just trying to avoid racking up high milage just getting somewhere. I drive it plenty when I get there.
I still think that Branson, MO is the best of all the options. Here are the reasons why I think that:
1. Central location in the US. It will allow the most members to attend due to location.
2. Located in the Ozark Mtns. with lots of great driving. The scenery is incredible for driving and the pavement is in great condiiton!
3. Two beautiful lakes with water sports & fantastic fishing.
4. More shows than you can see anywhere else except Vegas with something to fit everyones taste. Country Music to Classic Rock.
5. No lack of Hotels rooms. There are a multitude of Motels and Hotels. The prices on must are very reasonablely price. All of the major chain hotels and motels.
6. Shopping. There is everything from Designer Outlet Stores to Folk Art and Arts and Crafts stores.
7. Silver Dollar City. Which is a great place to go and enjoy the shows, food and shopping and exhibits. You should go there at least once.
8. There are a number of Car Shows thoughout the year and several Vette shows. One is the first weekend in April and another is great Vette show the Second weekend in June. Web site: www.carsplusclassics.com. We have been to this show the last two years and it would be a great show to tie in too and a great time of year to go to Brason. Not too hot or too cool and would be the best time to go there.
9. No one welcomes Vettes like Branson. Being a toursit town you will be amazed at the looks and comments you will get on your Vettes! It is very gratifying to have others appreciate your car like you do!
10. It is the most family orientented place in the US other than Orlando. So many good place to eat with resonable prices. Many major chain restaurants and local favorites too. But you can still get a Beer there too!
11. You can sleep at night and not have to worry about your car being stolen or vandlized.
I am for Branson if you can't tell! There is something there to make everyone happy! There is no place like it! It just makes sense to me!
We are over 250 miles from Branson so I am not picking something in my back door.

You are exactly right. I bought a tilt trailer a few months ago to get further than 200 or 300 miles away & so far I've had a blast. Best thing I've done in along time..I had to search for a low incline trailer because of my low spoiler, but I found one & it work great. All of us worry about breaking down, but now as long as I'm within 200 miles of my trailer AAA pays the freight & I can bring it home. I agree 100%

My vote for the 2006 Gathering is in Alexanrdia Bay, N. Y. Along with the GORGEOUS view of the Islands and, of course, the boat tours, is a beautiful antique boat museum in Clayton, N. Y. just a short drive
(maybe 15 min.) south of Alex Bay.
A little longer drive (about an hour) north of Alex Bay to the Eisenhower Lock and you can see the huge ocean going cargo ships or maybe a cruise ship passing through the lock.
And then there's the Thousand Island Bridge to Canada, another very short drive. If you've never been to the Thousand Islands, it's breathtaking.

Don't forget about the southland.
Orlando, Florida
Great weather in May, sunny and nice temp. Lots of good price hotels, lots to do, Disney, Islands of Adventure, Bush Gardens, NASA Space Center, beaches close, etc...
Alternate, Islamarada in the Keys.
Great fishing, awsome views for caravans, great clubs.
