It was selected because it is centrally located between Reno & Lake Tahoe. It is also less expensive to stay there then the other towns.
The dates have been selected: June 20-24, 2007 (Arrive Wed. 20, activities on 21, 22, 23, departure on Sun. 24).
If it matters, average temp there in June is 80. Also, it is a dry heat, so it is less annoying than the east coast usually is.
Hotel information can be found in a thread all about it.
REMINDER: Events are on Thurs, Fri & Sat, 6/21-6/23.
Hotel rooms will be blocked for arrival on Wed night 6/20, departure on Sunday 6/24.

Adam,
I'm very disappointed that you didn't listen to the many folks who said they wanted to go to CA in April/May - but not June. You even offered up a couple of dates in early/mid May, but then reverted back to your original June dates.
As I said in a previous post, I was interested in the earlier months - but I will have to reconsider my attendence in June. June is prime tourist season, and thus the prices will be higher, the roads more congested, the area attractions will be more congested, the temperatures in the surrounding area will be higher ... You get the picture.
There are many more things going on in June than April/May, so I'll have to look ahead and see what will be impacted by these dates - and maybe have to make a hard decision. It's also only a few days after Father's Day - which make make some folks have to miss that family event due to traveling a not insignificant distance to get to CA.
Just my two cents.

not to ad to the other concerns about dates i for one wanted a may date but i am wondering if you could put a little light on the reasoning for the june date. I will go and I am sure that with your shcedule you have your reasons, thank you for the hard work and the time you put into these functions, since we are in carson city what about a bowling tourney?

My reasons for selecting June 20-24, 2007:
- It was mentioned at the 2006 gathering meeting that it would be held end of June 2007. There was discussion about the best time, but no concensus was come to.
- The 2006 gathering was also the same weekend in June. That weekend was voted on by the membership. Therefore, I saw no harm in pursuing that again this year. Prior years were not voted on, they were a product of when the C3X was at the NCM. Hershey was dictated by when their parade was.
- When looking at the temperatures and speaking with a couple folks from the Carson City region, they said that April or May can be quite iffy. It can either be cold & snowy, or nice and mild. April's average temp is 63. May's average temp is 70. June's average temp is 79. Even if it got to 85 or 90, there is very low humidity there which makes a higher temp much more bareable.
- When looking for hotels, when given the 2 dates in May or the one in June, June had better availability at better rates.
- There is a neat local car show that happens the last weekend of June every year. It is called "Run What Cha Brung." It usually pulls in about 300 cars. It should be neat to bring a whole bunch of C3 Vettes to that show. It would be like a show within a show. Here is a link to the registration form from 2005 to give you an idea of what it is all about.
- When looking at the NCM calendar, I looked for a week that did not have any NCM events. I also tried to avoid overlapping any other big Vette events in the country.
- No matter what date was choosen, whether by me or by vote of the members, there would be people that can't make the date selected for any number of reasons.
- Some people aren't able to plan anything in April or May because it is too soon. June is a nice 8 months away. Plenty of time to adjust your personal/work schedule, make plane reservations, etc.
- As the event organizer and host, I need to have plenty of time to put it together and to be able to attend.
To specifically look at one of the concerns... there can't be anyway that Carson City traffic would be as bad as Pigeon Forge at any time of the year. Traffic in Disney World on their busiest day is better than Pigeon Forge on their slowest day.
This date should work out for some and not for others. The ones that it does not work for, perhaps they'll be able to join us next year, or the year after. Also, anyone is more than welcome to set up a regional event. Just because the "official" annual gathering is in Carson City in June, doesn't mean someone can't set up another gathering somewhere else on a different date.
I'm sorry if this date doesn't work for some of you. Hopefully, it will work for many others.

Adam thank you for the quick response. I relish in the depth of your answers, they make alot of since and I am very sorry if I made you feel like i was inappreicated of your hard work and your time frame restraints. You have always worked hard for the website and you have always made wise decisions as to the site. I will stand corrected and will attend to great event in June.

Don't know yet. I plan to speak with the event organizers to see how best to accomodate us. More details on that to come.
See you in June!

I've been in Carson City in the summer and I would not worry about traffic at all! The weather......who knows, at least there's less chance of rain. I'd say Reno on the week end might have heavy traffic. Carson City itself is not a big vacation Meca; So it won't be crazy with kids.
There are some unbeleavable roads out there, scenery is unreal in the mountains. Should be fun!
