Actually NO MATTER where "our" yearly gathering takes place 90 percent of the membership still live way too far away to attend...

My Wife and I attended Hershey and Pigeon Forge and had a GREAT time
(except for the rain) on both occasions BUT NO WAY would it be feasible to attend one on the West Coast or even in the Mid-West..etc...and I am pretty sure the guys and gals living on the West Coast etc could not attend a meeting held here on the East Coast...

My suggestion is to hold  several "Gatherings" every year in different parts of the country...

Just seem to me that most of us "could" or "would" consider attending
an event if it were being held somewhere within reasonable driving distance ...say 500 miles of our homes ..   So why not just set up Regional Gatherings ..   The percentage of members that could attend ONE of the gatherings would increase BIG time.. and I bet the number of attendees would be greater at each gathering then the number who have been going to the National ones...

Of Course I would make it mandatory for ADAM to attend the (ONE) gathering that cost him the most to "FLY" to..  LOL

I agree with almost everything Bob said. However, I can only afford the time to plan and attend one gathering per year. I have no problem with there being more than one, I just could not have much at all to do with it.

That is a good idea Bob. The members in each region could vote on the location and dates for their region. It might be easier for more people to attend them. Every few years or so we could plan one big gathering for the entire country.

Another option would be to have one "official" gathering like we do now, and the other regions could plan smaller gatherings for those who aren't able to attend the main one.

This has been discussed before. The "Regional Gathering" is a great idea, and there have been some members get together for "Mini" meets in different areas of the country.
The NCRS does this, too. We have Regional and Chapter meets, as well as the National Meet every year. The Chapter meets are fairly small, and more "locally" oriented. The Regionals will cover usually more than one state, with a large increase in the number of participants. The National is...well...National.

C3VR should still always hold a yearly "Gathering". The consensus of the members was that the location would "rotate" to different areas each year, so as to allow as many members as possible to attend at least one every four years. Next years event will be the Mid-West area, as defined by the C3VR membership map of the central states, not necessarily the US map/nomenclature.
I can't make every "Gathering" each year...just not possible. I'm sure it's this way with most of us. A Regional, or even a local meet would be great, and give members from a given area the chance to get together and shoot the bull, visit, meet new friends, and just generally have a good time. Most parts of the country have major Corvette shows once a year...why not use that as an opportunity to have a C3VR Regional/Chapter get together?
Just a few ideas...in the wrong thread, of course...

Now...back to the original subject of this thread...any more ideas for the 2008 location? Adams' Apple2007-09-26 10:16:15

Yep - it has several times and Adam's response has been constant each time.

Have NO FEAR Adam ...

I completely understand that you COULD NOT get involved with 4-5 or even 6 regional events...

Thats the main reason I thru in the comment on making it MANDATORY for you to attend the one that would cost you the most to FLY to... my intention was to make it clear that it would  be impossible  for you....

Personally I still would rather drive  250 miles and spend a weekend with a dozen other  members  once a YEAR  then to stay home  and miss attending a National Gathering  of about 50 members because it was too far from home..

Eureka is still my vote.  Too damn much traffic in and around Branson and no place to get a group of 20 or 30 in and out easily for food or drink.

If you want lots of available places to stay, lots of good alternatives for large restaurants (especially BBQ) and a centrally located spot, then I'll throw it out again - we could probably hold the event on the infield of the new NASCAR track in Kansas City, Kansas - and there are two local large Corvetrte Clubs that would likely help out with arrangements and planning. And - there are even some "curvy" roads for crusin in Kansas!
