Anchorage, as in Alaska?
Yep, go back in the thread to begining.

Awhile back, I worked for the Central of Vermont RR and spent some time in the New England area. I liked it all. Worked from New London to Montreal. I perfer Vermont or Massachuttes. Great driving. Hilly, winding roads with great scenery. Wilmington, Brattleboro, White River Junction and Montpieler Vermont. Springfield and South Deerfield Mass. Hartford Connecticut. Just to name a few. Anywhere along the Connecticut River is fine. Just my 1.5 cents ( I ain't got enougn brains to make 2 cents).

Jim, that was my thought, easy acess to Central NY via the NYS Thruway, travel North see site like Placid that every one can relate to, cut over to Vermont and head South. Back to Bennington, over to Albany and back to NYS Thruway.

There is a bunch of things to see, couple quaint covered bridges in Vermont for pict ops with the cars.
I just checked my Rand McNally and ... Newport is on an ISLAND with only 2 or 3 ways to get on and off the island. The island is on the Atlantic Ocean, which means lots of "beach bunnies" and traffic gridlock in the summer. Bout like Ocean City here in MD. Doesn't sound like a very good choice ... at least in the summer. Maybe before Memorial Day or after Labor Day it would work.
