I have to go with Tux and Terry on this one. Driving that far alone for me might be a little too much.

I'll throw my two cents in and vote for Newport, RI.

Seekonk, MA to Newport, RI : $2.00 for gas at most

I don't care where in New England.
Even though New York isn't part of New England, there is some awesome scenery in the Lake Placid/Andirondak area.

FYI, if some of you guy's are passing through the Buffalo/Niagara Falls region let me know. Michele and I will be happy to meet up and have a couple corktails. Then we can caravan to wherever the heck were going.

[QUOTE=DaveM]I gotta say Lake Placid would be a great place, it has a million things to do, and the roads are just right for our C3s. It's within a days ride for anyone in New England, but it's also a day closer for people coming from the west.

Another area is Western Mass. in the Berkshire Mts./Southern Vt. area.

Newport is kinda pricey, the mansons are cool, but there are no mountains to cruise!

Only 12 hour ride for us but.. there are times when events going on and it's hard to find rooms in Newport.. I like the Berkshire idea... beautiful country...

Are we any closer to having an idea today than we were in July? By the new rules my company set forth for vacation protocol I am supposed to submit my 2009 vacation by the end of October this year. That would be for the locked in dates based on my seniority. It sure would be nice if we could get something more concrete started. Especially if ya''ll are gonna try and make this Yankee drive as far East as possible.....

Norsky,

71Shark, Mike Ray and Becky and Vicki and I will see you at NCM.  Our big trip next year will be the Caravan.  Tim did it 10 years ago, so he's up for another one.

1700+ miles is too much for us on top of the Caravan.

You kids have fun.  Tux is right, those that go will have memories that they will never forget.  Wish we could make it!

Good point Larry, some people, myself included also needs to start planning for the '09 Vacation Calender at work.  It's really hard to plan things when you have to pick your vacation almost a year out Confused

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible

There are plenty of suggestions out there.  Should the voting process begin?  Do we vote for location and dates, or choose a location, then set the dates based on that?

Reviewing the thread, I've seen the following ideas:

Newport, RI

Lake Placid, NY

Old Forge

Watkins Glen, NY

Finger Lakes

Berkshire Mountains (Western MA, Southern VT)

Catskills

Smokey Mountains, South Carolina

Georgia

Indianapolis, IN

Wilmington, MA

Brattleboro, MA

White River Junction

Montpellier, VT

Cooperstown, NY

The Pocono’s

Point Pleasant, NJ (Jersey Shore)

North Carolina

Florida

Virginia

West Virginia

Bowling Green, KY

Based on the rules for the annual gathering of holding the event in the West, Central and East and repeating every three years, and based on the map defined (which I can't seem to find right now...), all of these fit the bill for 2009.

However, I think overall, the focus has been on New England, along with at least one suggestion and seconding of Indianapolis and Bowling Green (to correspond to a pre-defined NCM gathering).

Can we narrow this list down to a few of the New England locations, along with Indy and BG and get a voting thread started?

Also, is it too late to add one more suggestion?  I think it has been debated whether we wanted to hold the gathering in conjunction with any other large events, but maybe Carlisle should be added to the options to give folks a chance to attend both (stagger them so we still get a C3VR gathering for a day or two before or after the show).  Also, I know Adam had noted his conflicts and desire to have a gathering closer to his home base (and I think we can all understand that).  Carlisle keeps him w/in 100 miles or so.

I move that we get a list of locations defined and start a vote by the end of this week.
