Vette(s): 2004 Commemorative Edition Coupe, Auto w/HUD. 13K miles in 2015. Sold 1982 Red Coupe
Adam requested July to fit in with his schedule.
We have since found out that that is also when the 3 week long music festival will be in Newport, so we are trying to find out how crowded it will be.
Richard is checking on events, restaurants, tours, etc.
Should know soon.

The Newport Jazz Festival is one of those August weekends (most likely the earlier one) so get the date nailed down soon so folks can beat the rush for lodging from either of those music festivals.

I live in Westerly, RI, about 45 min from Newport. Although Newport has a nice name and everything it's a nice place for a one day visit and walk around town but parking is always a problem, it's overpriced and to find reasonable lodging anywhere close is difficult. I spent all afternoon today making calls and no one is very helpful.
On the other hand, Mystic, Ct., about 50 mins south and still on the ocean , is a great place. It is located right off I-95, has plenty of accomidations, lists over 80 activities including Mystic Pizza, remember the movie, the Mystic Aquarium which houses the exploration center for the submersible that visited the Titantic, Mystic Seaport, a sprawling recreation of an authentic whaling seaport with ships, several wineries that have tours, the two biggest casinos in the US, the best beaches in the NorthEast, and I made one e-mail to the Mystic Chamber of Commerce at 4 pm recieved an e-mail back at 4:15 saying the events coordinator was out of contact till next Tues and then got an e-mail from that lady 1 hour later offering to be of enormous help.
I can also map out a pretty nice cruise along back roads and the coast with several stops for those who would like to cruise the area. We could also take a day trip to Newport if you would like.
Oh I forgot there is also Custy's, an all you can eat seafood buffet--yes that means all the stuffed shrimp, lobsters, etc you can eat. The last time I went, many years ago, I ate 13 lobsters, 112 shrimp, 1 stuffed lobster fruit salad and dessert. I think there might be a time limit now but I can find out. By the way I didn't eat for the next two days.
Unlike Newport, Mystic has much more to do and is not an isolated area. Newport is only reachable by a toll bridge from a southerly direction and there is nothing really close to it. It's kind of isolated.
How about some comments. I'm willing to help out here.

I can vouch for Mystic being an interesting place.  One of Patty's aunts lived there for many, many years and we did visit there once.  Lots of things to do as Rich mentioned (one thing he missed was a tour of the Nautilus - the USN's first nuclear submarine).

A day trip to Newport would be easy to do and walk 'the wall' to see all the mansions by the sea.

Good idea Rich...!!!

I agree with Rich, I said that about Newport way back at the start of this thing. I think we will be much better off in Mystic. You can also get there by ferry from eastern Long Island if you want something different on your trip. The 2-3 times I've been to Newport I always stayed in Mystic.

Thanks Rich Clap

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.
I like the idea of Mystic, too.
It seems like a place with loads of possibilities.
