I know that while not only has the 2010 gathering not happened yet, the details are not even finalized.

However, after this past weekend, it has become apparent that we need to discuss an option for our 2011 gathering now.

It had come to my attention that Mike Yager (of Mid America Motorworks, one of C3VR's sponsors and hosts of the famous "Funfest") has invited us to come visit their facility as a group and get a intimate look at how they produce their C3 parts & accessories.  So, while I was at Funfest 2009 this past weekend, I met with Mike Yager.  While he took me on a tour of their Performance Choice facility, we discussed a visit by C3VR.  I told him that our 2010 gathering was already set for the Western US and that would mean we wouldn't be looking to the Central US again until 2011.  He told me that 2011 would be fine.  We'd probably be looking at Spring so as to not interfere with Funfest in September.

I also asked him if he wanted it to just be the C3VR folk or make an event for all C3s.  He answered my question by asking "What do YOU want?"

After speaking with a few C3VR members during Funfest, it seems the majority of folk think it should be an ALL C3 event.  It would give all C3 owners out there an event of their own, and gives C3VR the potential to gain new members.  At the same time, it offers Mike the ability to be intimate with a larger portion of his C3 market.  Which is what Mike is hoping to get out of this. He wants to be able to sit down with us and hear what type of things we are looking for.  He wants to ask us questions and he wants us to ask them questions.  Mike can use the power of his customer base, catalogs, website and other connections to help publicize the event.  I also met with the editor of Corvette Enthusiast magazine who said he'd write an article about it to help promote it as well.

While the exact details have certainly not been worked out yet, some ideas are... seminars, road-tours, tours of the MAM facilities, helping to make carpet sets (someone can buy a set while we are there, and help make the set they are going to bring home!) . Oh, and it is possible they might have a race track on site by then.  Mike & his staff would likely plan most of the event, making it a very easy year for us!

So, at this point, my questions to you are these:
  1. Should we take Mike up on his offer and have our 2011 gathering at MAM?
  2. Would you like to see this be a C3VR or ALL C3 event?
Let's open this up to discussion for about a week, then I'll get back with Mike to start working out a plan.

Thanks!

   Adam:
Here's is my 2 cents worth. I think it would be a no-brainer to hold our meet there especially if we can get all of that FREE advertising you mention. I know that there are a lot of interesting places in the Middle of this great country to see but to hold out meet at one of the best Corvette parts houses in this country AND invite ALL other C3 owners I think would be AWESOME. I've been buying C3(and now C6 too) parts from Mike for years and have never had a bit of trouble with any of his parts. We can go on a side trip to some other interesting site on one of our days there if we want. Let the planning begin!!! This could be our biggest gathering yet.

Sounds great, I can make it, I'm sure. I'm open to a C3VR or an all C3 thing.
You got my vote.

I was there in 2007 and enjoyed the hour or two that I was there, but what else is there to do in that area?
I was hoping for Branson, MO or St. Louis or some interesting area like that.
If we do go to MAM, it should be open to all C3 owners.

Great idea. Can it still be the "C3VR Gathering" tho if it is put out there as "Open to anyone with a Shark"? Not that I would care, personally...the more the merrier! It would be sorta like the old "C3X" at the NCM, no??
Heck...I say we lean towards doing it at least once. If it doesn't work out as well as past Gatherings, then we can do something different next time...all in favor???
EYE!

To Dave's point... I'm sure the folks at MAM would plan a full day but likey two days worth of activities.
To include Joel's point, if it were open all C3s, we could plan a few events outside the MAM events that could be just for us. And I like what you said abot trying it once. Compared to the NCM, mike can reach millions whereas they can reach only thousands. So it would hopefully be much better publicized, and therefore better attended than the C3X.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
Dave, when Adam mentioned this to me at Funfest, the question of what else to do was on my mind as well.  As I drove home, I watched for things and thought about it.  I know there is Rockome Gardens nearby (about 30 miles) as well as a site where Lincoln lived near Charleston (about 35-40 miles away).  I can also think of a few other things that are nearby that could interest folks.

Adam, I already told you, I'm very interested and I think this could be great!  I say bring on all C3's and let's party!!

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

And if it is held in the Spring (like May), it will be better attended than an event in October.
Just check the calendar so we don't conflict with any major Vette events.

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
Clap I concur with the group so far. I say GO FOR IT. Dates and plans can be made easily this early. I would love to get to that area and at least visit the close where my ride was birthed. Let ALL the C3s participate and enjoy a crowd of like vintage.  Can you imagine a motel dedicated, or more than one motel with nothing but but C3s parked at it?
