With the 2011 C3VR Member Gathering about to start, I'm sure folks are going to soon be asking: "Where's the 2012 Gathering going to be?!"

According to the Map of Gathering Locations,  we are due back in the East region for 2012.

So I now open the floor to suggestions of East Region locations for the 2012 gathering. (See the Map of Gathering Locations if you don't know what states are in the East Region).

With your nomination, please specify the following:
  1. Location (City & State)
  2. Best time(s) of year to visit
  3. Reasons why you think this would make a good choice for our gathering
Please do not make this thread into a chat thread.  If you are replying to this thread, reply only to answer the above 3 questions.  You CAN, however, reply to agree with a nomination if you would also like to nominate the same location. If you want to Discuss, please use the thread set up for discussion only.

By the end of this summer (Labor Day), a decision will be made as to the location of the 2012 gathering and I'll post it on the forums.

Here is a list of locations suggested so far:

  • Pocono Mountains, PA, ,Pocono raceway...and there's a ton to do up there including the new addition of gambling
  • Hershey, PA
  • Maggie Valley, NC, ,close to the Smokies (lots of great drives!), Blue Ridge Parkway tours, mountain lake tours, Vettes in the Valley (memorial day weekend - 300 to 400 car show), much cooler than Charleston temperature wise, good food, much less traffic than Charleston, no sea salt
  • Gatlinburg, TN, Smokie Mountains
  • Morganton, NC, Rik's Corvettes
  • Charlotte, NC, Henrick Motorsports
  • Charleston, SC, 1st week of June,  Wonderful city & history, Savannah (day trip & river walk crawl), Darlington (maybe), Isle of Palms, excellent food & shopping
  • Orlando FL, Spring,  Disney World & Unversal Studio's
  • Virginia Beach, VAMay or September, Lots to see and do. Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Station, Chesapeake Bay, Newport News, seafood, National Wildlife Refuges, Kitty Hawk, scenic coastal drives, just to name a few
  • Williamsburg, VA

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
Don't have a city or time of year, but I know someone (C2, C5, C6) mentioned South Carolina and it sounded like a good idea.  I've never been there and since we haven't had a gathering there, I thought it would be a good idea for something different

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

How about a more "southern" East location this time? We wanted to go to Connecticut but it was just too far and too expensive. What about Tennessee, especially around Gatlinburg (I think there was one there before we joined, but it's got great drives) or western North Carolina around the Smokies? What about Alabama or Mississippi?

I agree with hundred_honors, and it's a long trip from Texas to the Eastern seaboard also. And we're in northeast Texas--he's in San Antonio. It's often a hard day's drive just to get out of Texas!

Vette(s): Gone, but not forgotten: 1974 Coupe Red, matching numbers, Black Interior, L-48 w/ 4 speed; The “Admiral”, also gone and never to be forgotten. 1994 Admiral Blue LT-1 coupe, Black Interior Automatic

The real issue is organization. The two gatherings I have attended, Hot Springs and Bend were well organized and great fun. It takes a lot of time and effort to organize one of these events. The members who organized and put on these two events did a great job. If you can pull off a gathering in the Poconos, that would be cool, a beautiful area. I know I can speak for Norsky when I say we would love to put a gathering togther here in the upper midwest. I know it is not our "turn" but....

There were numerous folks at the 2011 gathering that suggested the Carolinas.

Hmmm maybe I'm missing something, my first time to go to a gathering  it was UpperEast Coast, I know by checking the Forum that say's C3VR Gathering's (with lots of pictures)  that the group goes across the country say West (like Bend Oregon last year thats sort of close to Cali right?)
This year Mid, Now next year we go back to East.
Easy as 1,2,3.......1,2,3....1,2,3....
I think from  Upstate NY to Mystic, Ct it was 6 plus hours.  Bend was a bit far for me but I loved the pictures. Effingham was 14.5 hour drive for me and WELL worth it.
I do think it's time to go South of the Border, so we can get that group some hometime. I know that will be 14 hour drive for me, I will attend!
Charlston is most beautiful, and a short trip into Savannah for a ghost tour (or crawl) would be cool.
Lets bring som Yankees back down South......where  be all da women at?
