Hey guys, back in town and back on the web. Had a great trip but glad to be home. Thanks for the feedback and we'll go with option #1 - July 13th to the 17th. Just read Dave's post on the Tacoma hotels (thanks Dave) and I want to get some prices from a couple of places here in Gig Harbor. Just across the bridge from Tacoma but a lot less traffic and I would feel much better with a bunch of Corvettes parked over here. I'll post further info as soon as I get it, but consider the date set !!!

Hey that bridge from Tacoma to Gig Harbor. Didn't they have a problem with that a few years ago? Is it OK now? Sure wouldn't want to see my Vette in the water.

Pretty awesome video, sadly there was one fatality. A dog in the last car on the bridge that was too frightened and refused to get out before the owner ran for safety.
Galloping Gertie was replaced in 1950 by what the locals call Sturdy Gertie which still stands today. Reconstruction was delayed 5 years by steel needed for WWII. Back then Gig Harbor was a fishing village and most folks had a boat.
Another bridge was built right beside Sturdy Gertie and opened in 2007, that bridge is mostly referred to as "crap that thing cost way too much". No toll going from Tacoma to Gig Harbor but I think its up to $6.00 per car to get back across unless you want to burn $20 worth of gas to get back around the peninsula to Olympia. With the second bridge we have four lanes going across each way and they are full !! Back before the 2007 bridge, there were two very narrow lanes in each direction going across the single bridge with no divider of any kind. Many bad accidents over the years.
Windy conditions are the only threat to traffic now and you may want to stay in the center two lanes of the old bridge if anyone in the car has a fear of heights.
