Honestly, we try to take a different route anytime we drive down that way. There is always so much to see that I just enjoy the trip. Sometimes I plan a way that takes us through different areas where I know that I want to stop. But really, no matter which way you go, its all just about the drive!!
Sara has brought up one of the main reasons for having The Gathering in a different region every year - to venture around this continent that we call home. The rotating of regions makes it less of a trek for folks in the host region to make it to a Gathering. Add to that being able to spend time with folks we have only met online via the site - AND - spend some more time with folks we have met at past Gatherings.
To address another point made above: I've attended 3 of the 4 Gatherings held in the Western Region - 2 of them were west of the Rocky Mountains. Both of those Gatherings were well attended by folks who live west of the Rockies. To the best of my knowledge the 2013 Gathering in Colorado was the only one not attended by anyone who lives west of the Rockies.
My hat goes off to those who have attended Gatherings that have been held on the opposite side of the continent from where they live - east or west, north or south. Taking another look at the Gathering Map (click here to see) there are still lots of places to venture to...!!!
I also tip my hat to those members who have stepped up and helped to put together a Gathering. It is not an easy thing to do and takes some serious time and energy to put together an agenda of interesting things to see as well as coordinating lodging and eateries.

So inquiring minds would like to know - just how would the region lines continue north into Canada?

It's not West coast, it's Western region. We've just never included Canada before.
