My experience with sail was in January, lotsa whitecaps , lotsa wind, on the Chesapeake Bay. I dinna like it!
That does not sound like fun (had to be cold)!!!  If it's windy enough to make whitecaps, we generally don't go out (usually means a storm anyway!)

Any update on this?  With the drive around the lake scheduled for Friday is Thursday going to be the day to sail?  If possible I'd like to go out for more than just a couple of hours.

Sorry I haven't given an update!!!  We are definitely still planning to do this.  We are still leaning toward Thursday (it's our anniversary so that's another good reason for sailing that day!)  Adam has some trips planned for Thursday but we could break away from the group for an afternoon sail.

As far as the length (time) of the sail, it looks like most places just do 2hr cruises.  There are a few places that do bareboat charters.  Here are the bareboat charters I could find:

J24:  1/2 day $300
O'Day 25':  1/2 day $270

Of course, with a bareboat charter, you loose the free drinks, snacks, ability to do nothing, etc.  But, you have the freedom to go where you want (within limits set by the boat owner).  Also, we'd have to bring some basic sailing gear (at least gloves) but I'll probably bring those anyway just in case they let us play with the big boat.  Big%20smile

Looks like you and Dave (dwright) are the only one's interested (and I believe Dave's decision is dependent upon weather).  Let me know what your preferences are (date/time, skippered vs bareboat, etc.) and Mike or I will call to make reservations.

This is the Official Agenda for Thursday, per Adam:

Thursday 6/21/07:
Local sightseeing/tours (so as to not spend a ton of time in our cars after driving for days)
09:00am: Meet at Holiday Inn
09:00am: Distribute Event T-Shirts
09:30am: Group Scenic Cruise to Virginia City (N395 to S341)
10:15am: Browse Virginia City (use parking lots on D Street, make own groups or individually)
12:00pm: Lunch in Virginia City (individually or in small groups. no official meeting place)
01:30pm: Cruise to Genoa (S341 to 50W to 395S to 206S)
02:15pm: Browse Genoa (make own groups or individually)
04:30pm: Cruise back to lodging in Carson City to get ready for dinner
06:00pm: Buffet Dinner at "Rum Jungle Buffet" inside Fandango Casino - $13.49/person.

So if we are going to sail, it would be nice to get our t-shirts and be back before dinner.
Is that doable? Do they have a two-hour lunch cruise? Or a mid-afternoon cruise?
I would guess that when the air warms up, the breezes pick up, so afternoon would be better that morning.

Watcha think?

That sounds good to me, Dave.  I agree about there being a better chance of wind in the afternoon. They have a Noon cruise (12:00 - 2:00) and an afternoon cruise (2:30 - 4:30).  If we want to do some stuff in the morning with the group, maybe the 2:30-4:30 would be best (but maybe we'd feel too rushed?).  They do have a lunch and sail package with lunch at "Jake's on the Lake" from 11:30 - 2:30 (I'm guessing you don't need to there the whole time) and the sail from 2:30-4:30.  It looks like it's about 1hr and 19 min drive (according to mapquest) from Virginia City to Tahoe City (if we want to cruise with the group in the AM.)  From Tahoe City to Carson City is 1 hr.  Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the noon cruise would be better.  If we did the cruise that ends at 4:30, we'd be pushing it to get back for dinner at 6pm.  Whatcha think?

I think either would work, but the 2:30 to 4:30 might be nicer. Warmer, windy, white caps, leaning out over the gunnels, on the trapese, opps, got carried away.

Dinner is a buffet, so even if we were running a little late, we could catch up with the others.

That way we could go to Virginia City, sail and only miss Genoa.

That would be my preference.

OK Jim.
Dave, I think you're right about 2:30 being the best time & I like the idea of being able to hang with the group in the morning too.  So, Unless Jim has another preference, we can plan the 2:30 sail on Thursday.  Is it just you Dave?  If Jim and his wife go, that would make 5 total.

Anyone else interested....last call.....

Just me. Even if my wife made the trip to CC, she would pass on the sailing. By the time I got back, her right arm would be mighty sore from pulling the lever.LOL
