Topic: C3VR Gathering Location selection
in Forum: Annual C3VR Member Gathering
I haven't taken the time to read all the votes/comments in the voting thread, so if someone mentioned this already, I'm sorry.
Since the last official C3VR meeting (last two actually) have been held in Bowling Green (the East section, according to Adam's map), why not hold next year's in the WEST (or MIDDLE) and then hold the following year's meeting in the MIDDLE (or WEST)?????
Once the rotation has been established, every third year the annual meeting can be scheduled for a different part of the country. Then we could vote on a particular city and state within that geographic area and establish a date for the meeting
That way people who cannot drive a long distance, for whatever reason, will know that every third year, the meeting will be in their particular section.
Also, I totaly agree with Bob Griffiths suggestion of having regional meetings. Why can't the Northeast section, for example, have a meeting (or 2, 3, or 4) each year. The Hershey get together was great. If the New England folks want to set up a meeting, let's say in Boston, anyone could go. Maybe the PA/upstate NY folks can set up a meeting in the Syracuse area, and the NJ/PA/MD/VA peeps somewhere in MD.
These regional meetings could be held around a local event or just a cruise through some scenic countryside with dinner, drinks, and some BS.
Just a good time to get together, meet some other members, swap stories, etc.
Just a thought.
Adam, if this was discussed already, lock this baby up.
And just to let you know I'm not just flappin my gums, I'll volunteer (or help organize) a meeting anywhere from Syracuse to the MD area.
[Damn, must have gotten carried away with the typing. Sorry for the lengthy thread.

I'm glad you brought this up, Biff. I've been thinking the same thing myself. I think it would be great to have the annual C3 meeting a rotating event each year, that way everyone would have a chance to attend one.

Hey Gang,
The topic of regional meetings has been discussed many times over the years and Adam is 100% in support of it. But he does not have the time to plan and organize all of them - that is where volunteer help is most needed. He has offered over and over again to supply materials, banners and flyers and such to help facilitate these gatherings.
To date there has been only one 'official' regional meeting that I've been aware of held last summer in Maryland, I believe, and Terry (tricer) was the driving force behind the organization of it. There have been a few groups of members who were all attending the same event who have gotten together but that has been the extent of it to the best of my knowledge.
I tried to get some interest in an Upper Midwest regional gathering around the NCCC national gathering which was held here in Minnesota last summer but got ZERO response to it. That has been the problem - lots of talk about these gatherings but virtually no involvement. Planning a gathering does take some time and effort and it would be very frustrating to go through those motions and then have nobody show up. "If you plan it they will show up" (to parapharse a famous quote) is not always the case.
Rotating the location of the C3VR annual meeting will most likely begin in 2007. The thing that is most troubling to all of us at C3VR, and Adam in particular, is that out of the nearly 800 active members less than 100 have voted for where to have the 2006 meeting. The national average voter turnout for non-presidential elections is higher than that!
Looking at the votes it is going to be East again.
So much for a rotation or any change from the East!
I would have liked to see it in the middle! Oh well!

Hey Jim, we out here in the NorthWest had a local meet. We had just about every member from WA attend. We also had members from Portland's MT Hood Corvette club attend. The event was coordinated and hosted all by Larry (1BadLT1) and I'll tell you what it was a blast.
I think it would be great if more people just pull off events like this one. Thanks again to Larry, man that was a fun day
Oh ya by the way next time we have a meet, we'll have an "Official Banner"

2006 was put to a vote... giving the Western and Middle members a chance to have it in one of those regions if enough members from those areas voted. Since it was already decided that 2006s region will be determined by vote, I'm going to stick with that plan. 2007 will not be in the same region as 2006 and will start a 3-year rotation plan, one year in each region.
Having said that... the "official" 2006 meeting is the one planned, organized and hosted by me. I have no problem with other people taking the lead to host a "co-official" meeting in other regions. I will do everything I can to help, but I will not be able to arrange the details. I can only supply money, supplies, etc. So if anyone wants to step up to do this in regions other than where the "official" one winds up, please let me know.
Thanks!

Adam - my suggestion about regional meetings was only meant for members to get together, put some faces to names, share some stories, etc. No way was I suggesting that we would hold any type of "official" C3VR meeting - just informal get togethers.
I don't think anyone here expects you to arrange these informal meetings. I'm sure everyone appreciates all you already do for the C3ers.
