If I may offer some professional advice here....

I did this (public relations/advertising/marketing) for a living for the last
two decades, and what I would recommend is the following:

- shoot 35mm slides of the event, if that's possible. Magazines still prefer
this format, because it's higher quality (reproduces better) than photo
prints.

- if 35mm isn't possible, then email the photos; that's commonly
accepted nowdays. But go for the highest-quality format you can. Again,
sending prints snail mail is the least desirable avenue (of course, if that's
the only option, then something is better than nothing!)

Magazines are competitive by nature. If you offer one of the enthusiast
books an "exclusive", generally speaking you can expect to get better/
more complete coverage than if you 'shotgun' out the material to multiple
magazines. That's a trade-off that the news media makes day in and day
out. They won't tell you that--journalistic pride prevents it--but it's
nevertheless the working reality of the business. You 'give' them
something, they 'give' you something in return.

So the question is, do you want to go for broader but very likely 'smaller'
coverage of the event by sending out the materials widely; or do you want
to try for somewhat more extensive/'deeper' coverage (usually meaning
more of a story, perhaps more photos, and so forth) by negotiating for an
'exclusive'?

There's no right or wrong way to do this--just different options. And
keep in mind that there's no guarantees of coverage, even if you do
negotiate for an exclusive. The news media reserves the right to change
their minds/run something else if they choose to. Generally speaking
though, if you treat them professionally, they'll do their best to keep their
end of the bargain.

But I would stress the importance of sending the highest quality photos
that you can.

Anyone remember this thread?  While at MAM-FF the Corvette Enthusiast booth was directly behind our booth so I walked over and talked with one of the fellows there.  I mentioned to him that C3VR had been in contact with the magazine about getting a writeup of the PF member's meeting and somewhere along the way things fell through the cracks in the club house floor.  He said that while it was a little late it was still possible to get something in the magazine about the gathering.

So - who would like to take a stab at pulling together a brief write up with a couple of pictures?  If we're going to get this in it has to happen very soon...!!!  Contact Adam if you're interested.

I thought we assigned that to Joel and Micki. Are they goofing off or what?
I can help - I have a professional experience with writing copy - I am not a photog though so you'll need to pair me up with someone who is. Also I can't get there until later Friday. EWe should be able to lever this into some good exposure in the professional Corvette Rags that are out there too.

I am up for it . if some one mails me the pics and the fully written article. i would do the leg work of sending the article to the companies and such. i also need a snail mail version of the pics, the magazines may not accept the email version of pics and my printer would mutilate the pics rather than make them look good printed out. sorry not set up for printing pics.
How did I get "assigned" this project?

btw....I brought this thread back up a couple of weeks ago...what happened to all of the posts that were made then?

Joel, I remember you mentioning the magazine article but I'm pretty sure it was in another thread.  I'll look for it when I have more time.

You've heard of a group read? Let's do a group write.
I'll start.

The family known as C3VR celebrated their fourth Annual Gathering last June in Pigeon Forge, TN. Why PF? The eastern clan out voted the central and western members. Simple as that. And someone thought it would be a great place to drive their C3 Vettes.
You see, this family is an e-family, whose common bond is the love of Corvettes, especially C3s. They meet via the website www.C3VR.com. And once a year, some of them, the lucky ones, drive to a location for a long weekend of fun, food, social interaction, and cruising in their favorite ride.

Day one for most of the family was Thursday, June 22. They met at one of the hotels and had a cookout in the parking lot, thanks to Stingray Jim and Jim Jr. (insert picture here) who brought the big grill, lots of dogs and saugage, and plenty of liquid refreshments. Members came from all over the States, including one couple from Alaska (insert picture here). Yes, they drove their Vette, but only from Vancoover. Came from Anchroage via ship.

Saturday morning found most of the group at the Muscle Car Museum, drooling all over the vintage Vettes as well as many of the other classics from the 60's, 70's and 80's. (insert pic).

The highlight of the gathering was definitely the ride on Saturday afternoon. About 30 mile from PF is an 11 mile long highway affectionately known as the Tail of the Dragon. There are exactly 318 curves in this piece of ribbon candy. Motorcycles and sports cars flood this road all summer long and June 24th was no execption. (insert several pictures, especially mine!) We rode to Deal's Gap, took a short break and rode the 11 miles back again. What a blast. Highly recommended for all Corvette owners to drive it at least once.

OK. Someone else's turn.
