I'm making a long pull to Chamberburg Pa on the way back, that way Monday will be a shorter drive for me.

danascar said: My reservations are made at both stops! As Dave mentioned has anybody made a "return trip" thread yet. Reservations will have to made for that or are we all just going to wing it and stop wherever and whenever on the way home?

Dan, the plan right now is to just see how far the group can go before stopping. So yes, we are going to "wing it". Oh, the adventure!

Unless someone has other ideas, we were just going to WING It on the way home.  Some of the others have chimed in to do the same.

Current return trip is running up 95N past Richmond and then head over to 301 through VA and end up in Bowie, MD for a night or two and then head back home.

Are we there yet?

If we make it to Bowie, MD, I'm heading home since I only live 45 min.-1hr. away! I was thinking about stopping by 7-8 PM and then picking up in the AM. But that's just me.

I'll be hanging around Charleston on Sunday waiting for Patty to arrive in the early evening and we'll stay overnight with a nephew in Sommerville, SC.  Starting on Monday morning our plan is to head up the coast staying as close to the water as possible and overnight on Ocracoke Island.  Tuesday we'd continue working our way up the coast to stay near Ocean City, MD.  Haven't figured out the rest of the way to Boston yet but looking at heading out Long Island and taking the ferry across to New London, CT.

Would like to be in Boston Wednesday evening if possible.  Still in the planning stage so any input will be most appreciated.

Hey Jim, if you go over to Long Island take the Verrazano bridge to avoid Manhattan, follow the South shore passed Kennedy airport and then head to the north shore to get to the ferry, and whatever you do, do not do it anywhere near rush hour! There's always traffic, but that will be your best bet.
Sounds like a fun trip. Don't know what route you're taking home, but if you need a stop over in NW Jersey you are more than welcome at our place, we are right off Rt.80 (exit 27).
See you in May,
Dave

Dave,

Thanks for the confirmation, the route I've been looking at does take us on the south side of NYC and out on Long Island.  Don't know yet if that will happen as the 3rd day is currently a little too long in the saddle and gets us into Beantown quite late in the evening.  Timing is everything in trying to get around NYC plus ferry boat schedules factor in as well.

Also thanks for the offer on the return trip.  Haven't looked at that route much yet as I'm still trying to get the Charleston to Boston leg of the trip sorted out.

Wow tough call. Seeing that you need to be in Boston at a specific time, I would map out a place or three that you really wanted see, get to them in a reasonable amount of time and relax. You're probably looking at 1,000 miles from Charleston to Boston.

I travel 95 through MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI and finally MA (20 mi south of Boston) a few times a year - and every trip is different as far as traffic goes. I can generally make the 450+- mile trip to the grandkids in Bowie, MD in about 8 hrs, driving all interstate at about 70 mph, normal traffic, no sight seeing and in a C6 or mini van. If I were driving (450 miles) back roads, sight seeing, maybe taking a ferry and etc - I would plan on 2 - 3 days.  You can easily kill a day driving along the RI coast, going to Newport, etc and still be 1 1/2 hrs from Boston.

Good luck in your planning, if I can help just yell!

Made our reservations today!Thumbs Up  Booked for both hotels on the trip down.  We won't be in Chincoteague until way after dinner (like 9:00 PM at best), so don't save us a seat - but keep the light on for us Wink  I'll have the bottle opener ready and a bottle on ice in the car Nadine.LOL
Are we there yet?  Dave - thanks for organizing!
