For those interested in doing a portion of Rt 66, the Mother Road begins in Chicago. Another good starting point would be St Louis. You could probably go all the way to Arizona and then shoot north to Nevada. Or head north on Rt 666 in New Mexico (near Gallup) and head up to 4 corners. Most of the original road is still there, some of it unpassable. Do a search of Rt66 and you will find more info than you can imagine. I also belong to the Rt66 web ring at Yahoo. Great people, much like this site and very dedicated to the preservation of the road. So much of what is left such as old gas stations, restaraunts and motels are disappearing rapidly. One motel I HIGHLY recommend is the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucuncari, NM. It is the oldest still in operation Motel on Rt66. It is a completely restored Motor Lodge and each room has it's own garage. I have stayed there. Very clean and super reasonably priced. Check out www.blueswallowmotel.com. I have done most of the road in the past five years and much of what I saw has vanished since then. So do it now! It's an experience you'll certainly enjoy and never forget. Americana at its best

[QUOTE=DaveM] Myself, DWrite, & JimG will most likely be goig out I80. We would meet up in Ohio. Details not worked out yet, but maybe we can meet up with you guys if you are going out I80 also. I think alot of guys will be going out I80. We will see as time gets shorter.
Dependin on your arrival time / date if you could stay in my hometown @ Holiday In Express overnight and we could all leave from here and pick up the MapQuest route listed above.
I am leaning towards the Mapquest route out and Marions desribed route back at this time. Again, its early but good to start talkin through this now.
Tux...

Hey again,
I finally got around to getting this year's master caravan list going (check it out by clicking here).
Keep me up-to-date on your plans so I can keep the master list as current as possible.
Thanks!
Hey guys -
I'm going to be forced to drop out of the Carson City trip due to work requirements. I wish I could work this out by quitting but I need the paycheck right now. Just got our schedule confirmed today. My backup is getting called to active duty for 24 months so I have no one that could fill my place.
Jim O - Please remove me as the guy leading the East Coast caravan.

JimG,
Sorry to hear you won't be able to join us.
DaveM and I are still planning our route, but it looks like I80 all the way right now.
Different route coming back. Maybe a little Route 66.
