[QUOTE=cthulhu]you i-30 guys will have it easy...
you get off on exit 98 (that means 98 miles from texarkana) take 270 north about 15 miles to HS (passing my house, which is off of 270) and then reaching the 270 bypass (at exit 9) follow it west until it ends and then you cant miss your hotel on the left hand side after crossing the bridge.

We'll be coming from Memphis, but that sounds like it may be our final approach to the hotel as well.

not quite... you will get on i-30 in lr and head west towards HS... but you want to take the other hot springs exit... I think it is 110, this is highway 70. It is curvy but can be frustrating as it only has an alternating passing lane, it also has homes and other raods that cross it at various points so you will literally have to stop on the highway so some guy came make a left turn into his driveway as there are no turning lanes. The federalis like this road as well so speed at your own risk. You will take this road right into the heart of Hot springs, you will follow this road on a winding path through hot springs until you come to a large 3 way intersection. I dont know how many stop lights you will pass to get here but it is quite a few. There is only one major intersection that you cross before it, that is central avenue, then there is an s-curve that goes left and the street becomes one way, when you come out of the split into 2 way traffic again you are about a mile from the aforementioned major 3-way intersection. This intersection makes you turn left to stay on 70 or go straight to get on 270. Go straight. Follow this road for a few miles and when you cross the lake, LHR is on your left.

Whew!! Glad I'm one of dem east bound I-30 boyz.

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...
I think Mapquest by-passes all the downtown traffic and routes us around the city to come in the backdoor.
I30 to US270 to Albert Pike Rd.
Maybe more miles, but quicker.

yes that is the route i described earlier for people coming from the south...
it is significantly longer but does avoid all the lights...
you are traveling all the way to malvern to get back to hot springs...
that is my preferred route since i live in between malvern and hot springs... but when im at work (in the middle of HS) and need to goto I-30 I take the city path, much shorter...
acually i forgot to mention option #3... the bypass has recently (int he last year) been extended all the way to highway 70 on the east side of hot springs, you can take I-30 to 70, then take the 270 bypass (about 3 miles east of HS) all the way to albert pike this is probably the BEST route if you are coming from the north or east.
that way you dont have to go 12 miles further SW to turn around and go 14 miles or so north. to then get on the bypass and go 9 miles west

Say, Ben...how about Hwy 7 coming in from the west, off of I30? Looks like that may be a shorter path for us, and maybe a bit more twisty/scenic? Would that be a good idea, or is it a chopped up farm road or something?
btw... For the D/FW caravan folks, Mama & I will be making the trip Wednesday, not Thursday, now.
So...iffin ya'll wants to get together and make the run, let's DO IT!

7 between arkadelphia (actually caddo gap) and hot springs is nothing to write home to mom about. It is hilly and a little twisty but not particularly scenic as it is pretty well settled land. It is shorter... but it is 2 lane until you getin Hot springs, The other way... going up to 270, and 270 bypass, off i-30 is 4 lane all the way to LHR.
directions from here pretty much are follow 7 north to hot springs, youll pass lake de gray, keep going, youll pass lake hamilton and youre pretty much in hot springs at this point. keep going north on 7/Central Ave, until you get to the oft aforementioned 270 bypass, go west until it ends.

Thanks, Ben!
We might just go ahead and take the big road in, and save the "spirited" driving for later!
