I have a pair of Midlands that are rated for 12 miles. Of course, that is for flat land or across the lake. If you are on the other side of the mountain, I won't hear you.
I do have a problem with one of the pair. It don't work.

I'll bring the one that works.

I have a set of Motorola T5000R FRS/GMRS radios that have a 5 mile range. I got them at Walmart about a year ago for $39.00 so the wife can call me when I'm out in the shop.

For those of you who may have questions about FRS/GMRS here is a website for FAQs:

I've already got a pair of these radios that I'll be bringing. I like the idea of Ch. 3

I've only used them in the house with my son so far. I really like the charging base. The display on the radios is very easy to read. Buttons are easy to use.
The thing that is different between these and the old Motorola "Talkabout" radios that I have, is this Uniden only has 7 FRS channels, while the Talkabout had 14. Although the Uniden has 99 privacy codes per channel, the Talkabout had only 38. I haven't figured out how to access the privacy codes yet.
It does have a headset jack which I'm hoping will work with the headset I used with my Motorola.
Anyway...for 30 bucks, seems like a good deal!
