Ok, I know I started a thread about this before, but I thought it best to close that one and start a new one because now the work really needs to begin.

I am so darn busy with everything else in my life I'd like to propose that I find volunteers to build the agenda for the 2008 Gathering. I will be available for council and final approval.  The past 5 years, I've built the agenda myself (with suggestions and some help along the way), but I'm hoping that we can assemble a Gathering Committee to do the 6th annual to relieve that stress from my life.

If you can be a dedicated member of this Committee, please reply to this thread. Please do not reply if you can not help.

Here is what we need:

Event planners: Research local and nearby sites, attractions, activities and road tours that we could attend as a group.

Dining planners: Once the Event planners have come up with a list of events, would need to research eateries near the event locations/destinations.

This research would likely involved mostly online research, but you may have to make phone calls too.

I'd say we need at least two people for each.  You'd have to work with each other to make sure you are not duplicating each other's efforts.

Who's up for it?

Thanks a lot!

UPDATE:
The following people have offered to be on the Committee:

I've got the Wednesday night dinner planned, but I can search the web as good as anyone else.

We had some good suggestions from John Grant and Ben (residents of Hot Springs).
We should start with those ideas and build from there.
I know this group likes to ride to a destination, get some food, maybe visit  a museum or interesting site, cruise some more, get more food and talk till their jaws hurt.

If that ain't what you want to do, speak up now!!!

There is also the local car show to think about.
Who might be interested in either entering or visiting?

This is your chance to speak up.

I contacted them by email and expect them to chime in here shortly.

This is exactly what I'm looking for.

This thread is to be used only for volunteers to step up.  If the volunteers want to start a new thread/threads about agenda idea, by all means, please do.

Also, let's get an official committee together first before the planning begins. This way people don't duplicate each others work and the chaos will be kept to a minimum.

Ok guys, I can help (hopefully Ben too, but I cannot speak fro him) with what there is to do and see and eat locally. I have some ideas (Ben previuosly named some too) that may be fun.

1. The HS Corvette Weekend was the reason the date was selected, so one would assume that the group may want to coordinate activities with their events since they are already planned. ( I know that I plan to enter my car in the showon Saturday.

2. Ben suggested a cruise to Petit Jean Mtn. with senic overlooks, hiking trails, a lodge where we could eat lunch and a Car Museum. There is also Mt. Magazine (a further distance to travel) with fantastic views and a lodge that is a site to see in it's self.

3. We have a world class museum here in town, Mid America Museum which is extremely interesting.

4. We have an Historic downtown with Bath House row, group of historic bath houses with one that belongs to the Park Service that is open for paid tours and a outstanding prominade to walk and view a live "hot spring". There are also many stores that sell fine art downtown with a live music/comedy show.

5. There are many good places to eat here in town, some local and many of the national chains.

6. 4 local lakes with boat rentals and fishing.

7. A horse racing track (live racing ends the weekend before) with simucast racing and games of skill for those that like that kind of activities. Not my first choice though.

I will help all I can with the events and restaraunts! However I have one caveat; My youngest son is about to deploy to Iraq in March for his second tour of duty. I do not forsee any time conflicts or problems, but just as long as you understand that if I am needed else where, that is where I will be. I am sure you understand.

We (JD, Joel and myself) are actively working out the details for Thursday, Friday and Saturday to give everyone some great choices and ideas.
We will have everything ready to post in another week or so.
Stay tuned.

My sincere THANKS and deepest APPRECIATION go to JDGrant, dwright, and Adams' Apple for putting together the 2008 Agenda.  Looks like it is going to be another fantastic gathering!!! Detailed agenda should be ready for public viewing in just a day or two.  Stay tuned!
