Well I got home at 8pm Sunday. Roads & traffic were the best until I hit PA
one back up after another. Thank God the car was running OK by then otherwise it would have stalled every time I stopped, which was every 5ft. for a long while.

Thanks to everyone for your concerns and a special thanks to Mike (Sundevil74) & his lovely wife Robin for taking care of me. Buy the way if anyone needs their car fixed, go to Mike's for a car wash with his magic water! He washed mine and it ran fine all the way home. Go figure

The Chevy dealer in Pahrump, NV. found a bad vacuum leak at the intake/head gasket, he replaced those gaskets and the intake top plate, VGR, & TB gaskets. He check everything and it all checked out OK, but it still would not idle and ran a little rough, better than before at least.
I left Pahrump (1 hr. west of Vegas) on Thursday morn. Once up to speed it ran fair. Stopping for gas was not fun, kept stalling and was hard to start. But I kept going and praying that it would not die in the middle of nowhere, and there was a lot of that! Once I got to Kansas it started to run better and kept getting better the farther east I went. Now it runs fine except for a few odd noises.
I don't think I'll be going outside the Eastern or Central time zones any more with the Vet!
Thanks to DaveW, Norsky, Larry the Sick Guy (dajablu), Marion, Sundevil74, for your help, phone calls and your company. Thanks to Stingray Jim for all your calls and help.
Good to be home

Dave,
Glad to see you made it home.
All's well that ends well.
I know our Cross Fire Injection with the computer should compensate for the altitude and thin air, but mine didn't like it out west either. She runs fine now that she is home.
It's good to be back home.

Glad you made it home, Dave!
Did the dealer get any trouble codes out of it that made them decide it needed all that stuff? Could it be that the MAP sensor just didn't like the higher altitude?
In any case, we're glad that you made it back safely, even tho it took a while.

Dave -- Good to have you home!
You will certainly remember this gathering for years to come, eh? It was great to meet you. Look forward to our next meeting at the 2008 gathering, but you need to get Black Beauty fixed before that trip. Mike

Welcome home, Dave. Be seeing you next summer here in the midwest.

It gave a lean code. He found a leak in the intake/head gasket. He showed me the spot, he would spray on the gasket on the r. side close to the middle of the head and the idle would speed up real fast. When he removed the gasket it was split there. He tested everything and they all checked out just fine. He put a new MAP sensor on and there was no change so he put the old one back on. He looked at that more than anything else, changed the connector to it, still idled bad. It must have been the altitude, DaveW's car was had starting just like mine put at least his ran. Well, at least is OK now except now it has a bad ping, maybe it's rebuild time, maybe 383 stroker with diff. heads, intake & a Carb!

If it's pinging now, you(they) may have gotten some crap up under the EGR valve, and it's not seating correctly, or it could be stuck shut. If it's stuck open a bit, it will make it not want to idle, sorta like a vac. leak. If it's stuck closed, it can cause the engine to ping. Might need to get that checked before ordering up a stroker...
Tho a stroker WOULD be nice...

They removed the VGR and cleaned it out, put it back with a new gasket, You think it still could be a problem? I guess i'll take it off and check it out.
Thanks Joel.

Glad to hear you finally made it home Dave. I can only imagine what an experience that must have been. BTW, go with the 383 stroker. I'll see you at the gas pumps.
