UPDATE 8/17: I just found out that
there are currently only 13 people registered for the 2007 event. I was
told if they don't get 50 people registered, they will cancel this
years event. So if you are planning to attend, REGISTER NOW! If you want to help those folks that already registered and want to go, you can help by also attending and REGISTER NOW!

[QUOTE=JimG]People weren't that interested at that late date. Typical of the museum though, pandering to the newer C-5/6 owners.

That right there is why I have a hard time seeing myself paying for a membership at the museum....

I agree with you 100% Jim.
They might as well say: "Please support our cause and passion for newer Corvettes, and then we'll give you classic vette folks an event at a time that fits our needs."
They must think C1 - C3's are the best equipped for inclement weather that time of the year. I say let's move the event to Christmas week.
. Yeah....that sounds good. Right???

If you'll excuse me now, I have to change the gear oil in my vettes transfer case and front differential. The fluid is dirty from use during last years winter.
Bitter?.....slightly

I agree with all of you - especially about the time of year. We asked them last year to consider moving it to a better time of year. Guess they just didn't listen - or didn't want to. But ... I'm going if they hold it. May go anyway if they don't.

Now it's sounding like a threat....
The NCM (and I hope they are reading this) exists solely because we love these cars and CHOOSE to join their ranks in supporting their cause to memorialize THE GREAT AMERICAN SPORTSCAR. Sometimes things need to be done because they are the right thing to do and not because of the profit margin. It's too bad that they have forgotten their roots and that the purpose for their existence is their membership. No, I don't have a C6 nor a C5, yet. But does that make me less important? Apparently so.
If they cancel it, I'll seriously consider never going to the museum ever again. I cannot register until I return to the US in September since anything can happen.

Like Terry Ricer said, we talked to Roc and Adam last year at the NCM about the late date and got nothing but excuses as to why they couldn't make the date earlier. If a lot of people show up and we eat at the Skydome dinner Saturday night, maybe we can corner Wendel Strode and see if we can get more backing for an earlier date. We will probably get nowhere with Roc or Adam Boca. The NCM is going to continue catering to
the C5 & C6 owners because that is where the money is and they cannot afford all the backing and support that they receive from GM and with the cars that they raffle off. Their main concern is to bring in money to build the new addition. In the past I have talked to Wendel about trying to include some swap meets for parts for the older Vettes like at Carlisle but have never heard anything about the suggestion. That's why the C3VR is such a great club because we can always do our own thing without the
NCM. We could talk about this for hours but it all boils down to where the money comes from. The C5 Registry is a very large organization that attracks huge attendance for the Birthday Bash every April at NCM, that along with the Labor Day Celebration brings in the most money of all the events that the NCM sponsers. Enough for now until we get together in October and we can hash this out. Looking forward to seeing everyone

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

Sounds like a catch 22. They won't put more effort into C3 and earlier events because they don't bring in the numbers like the events for the newer cars. Owners of the older cars don't go to the events because the NCM doesn't put in the effort (or doesn't put the effort in getting good timing).
Seems a shame that a museum won't invest in that which it is set out to preserve.
Like I said in the other post - I can't commit to going right now. I'd like to go, but we'll see what happens. I like the idea better of C3VR members showing up that weekend regardless of what the museum does - it would certainly be cheaper!
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
