I am planning to go, but I can't register until after Sept. 1.
I'll be there even if they cancel, just to see the C3VR members.

Sign up for the Saturday Banquet at the museum.
C3VR members will go out to dinner Thursday and Friday night.
Maybe one of those nights we can go to the Kart Track.
I will get there Wed. night and I'll be looking for other members.
I plan to stay at the KOA unless someone wants to share a room and expenses.

If they cancel this at the last minute, I am gonna be pissed. That weekend there are several things going on and I don't want to end up sitting at home waiting on my $140.00 I sent to be refunded.
I am just a little dissapointed to say the least in the museum. We need to rethink our membership dues for next year. I don't think I know of a "museum" anywhere that caters to new items.
museum | |

a depository for collecting and displaying objects having scientific or historical or artistic value |
It seems to me that the "museum" is only interested in new and shiney and museum delivery anymore.
OK I am finished tyipng what I am thinking, good thing I don't know how to spell some of the other words that were coming to mind.

The museum is in business to make money. People come to see the cars history. Not alot of the historic automobiles make the driving trip to do so. (Look at our own sign up). C4 - C6 cars are drivers and attract larger followings. That being said I can see their side of the coin.
On the other hand the musuem could promote historic cars rolled up into one of the new car events as the feature and make amends to all sides. JMO
I like the idea of going irregardless and hangin out with my C3 buddies. I don't need to donate extra money to the museum for a good time with people that I am already guarenteed to have a good time with anyway. Going out to eat and taken a cruise doesn't hafta be a sponsored event and I don't necessarily need another dash plaque key chain, or identification teather...

To my memory the last attempt by the museum to promote the C3 at a major event was "Sharkfest" back in 2002. It was the "featured" beginning to the 50th celebration launch. I wasn't there but have heard from others that "Sharkfest" was virtually lost in the shuffle of the other agenda items at that event.
Shortly after that C3X was proposed to the NCM kids by AdamW as a way to put something on the event calendar for the longest running generation (to date). They agreed but put it in the October timeframe because "there were no other open weekends in the calendar" and they would consider repositioning it after a 3 year trial run.
After just 2 years the event was changed to include the C1 and C2 gens making it a different venue. And now after just 2 attempts at that format they are on the verge of dropping the event altogether without rethinking a change in dates. Seems a big shame to me.
It has always conflicted with the Center Hill Lake fall color cruise so I look at it with mixed emotions.... but I'll NEVER forget our go-karting night a coupla years ago, a KILLER time was had by all!!!

UPDATE 9/10/07: I just heard that 30 people are registered. I believe their magic number is still 50. So if you plan to go an haven't registered yet, please do it now.

I'm mixed on this. There is a great mix of generations in the museum. The dome has more 3's than any other vintage. Remember, most of them are donated for a time time to be there. I was just there for the Anniversary celebration and I could count on two hands the number of 1's, 2's and 3's in the parking lot. Not even that many 4's anymore. It is certainly not the museum's fault that people are not driving them as much anymore. I would venture a guess that Dennis and I drove the furthest in a "vintage" car to get there. I agree that they should promote as hard as they can the Corvette hobby for the vintage cars as well as the new ones but they do have to pay the bills and the 5's and 6's are what show up. I do not agree that they are pandering to the newer cars. Maybe I'm just not paying attention. The Museum delivery option is promoted and if I were buying a new one I would check the box. It is a mis-conception that GM supports this museum. They do not. Financially that is. They will loan cars for the exhibits but all money to operate the place is from donations, entry fees, gift shop and memberships. Raffle cars are paid for from raffle sales. As far as the vintage event goes, pulling memberships or not rejoing will not solve anything. Maybe some well placed calls and letters could help but WE have to prove we will show up with our beloved treasures to make it worthwhile. It is up to the owners of the cars to promote the event and spread the word until we prove ourselves worthy of the money it takes for the museum to do it again. They have probably been burned by putting together a national event that now 30 people have signed up for. It is 13 hours for me and I have been able to go only three times but I plan to do it again! I went two times before 2000 and then I had three little ones come along take my time and I did not want to be away as much. It is now becoming easier and maybe not long until I can take my oldest. I also plan to send that check every year for my membership.
Sorry for the rant.
