I picked Richmond Va as a starting point for me but I'm going to try to be flexible in this...I've got a few days of vacation time to play with.

Route 1:

Richmond Va -> D.C. -> Penn Tpk -> Cleveland Oh -> South Bend In -> Joliet Il -> Davenport Il -> Omaha Neb -> Lincoln Neb -> Salt Lake City Ut -> Reno/Carson City Nv

Possible short stops:

Cleveland - Rock And Roll Hall of Fame
 South Bend - Notre Dame

Route  2:

Richmond Va -> I64 -> St Louis Mo -> Kansas City Mo -> Denver Co -> Salt Lake City Ut -> Reno Carson City Nv

 Possible Short stops:

St Louis - The Arch and Anheuser Busch; Busch Stadium

Route 3:

Richmond Va -> I64 -> St Louis Mo -> Joplin Mo -> Alburquerque NM -> Flagstaff AZ -> Las Vegas Nv -> State Route 95 -> Reno/Carson City Nv

Route number 3 offers the Chance to get on the side roads of the Old Rt 66, but will take a lot longer.

Possible short stops:

Las Vegas - 'nuff said , it's Vegas Baby !
 Hoover Dam !

Route 4

Richmond Va -> Roanoke Va -> Knoxville Tn -> Nashville Tn -> (Possible side trip to Bowling Green) -> St Louis -> and then any of the above options past St Louis.

I voted for 3 just because I want to do a small section of Rt 66. But I could do that on the way home too. Just let me know where and when to meet up with you folks.

That would be one-way.
5550 round trip.
Plus site-seeing, side trips, and mountain cruises when we get there. Figure 6K total. Hope gas is less than $3/gal.

I don't think all the east coast drivers have voted yet.

I voted for #1. Straight out Rt 80. We can pick up a lot of people along the way, hopfully. If I had more time I might go for a different route but I think the most direct is best.
