Adam, thank you for the intervention there. I thought members of this forum were above this. Maybe I have too much of a Los Angeles mentality whereas, if its not double bolted, pad locked and guarded by a rabid Doberman, it's GONNA disappear. And I live in a good part of town. There is even security at the mall AND the grocery store. A sign of the times

I think the point I am trying to make is that some sort of security is a good idea and maybe now should be dealt with at future gatherings. I don't want anyone to go to Carson City and come home Vette poor or damaged. No one does.....just an ounce of prevention.
By the way, I saw the post before you editted it and was ready to go off in a way I would probably have been banned from this forum. Thanks for your level-headedness.

I have been watching, reading the post, and I feel that if securtiy is there grea, if it cost extra I wouls consider, but I have faith in God. that he led me to this vette and that he provided me the means to get the vette, so I have faith that he will protect t(his) vette, go ahead an shake your head but I have to believe that what will be will be, period, no matter whsat I try to prevent from happening.JMO.

OK, I started this thread because I've just put 24k in restoration over the engine work and purchase price and I am concerned about leaving her in an unprotected parking lot LATE at night - I have a low jack, but my thoughts are of vandalism and crappy aborted (and costly) theft jobs, as the replacement insurance value for my ride is 1/2 of my investment - typical for many restoration jobs. I know many of you live in areas where theft and vandalism rarely happen, but I also know the satistics around motels for collector cars during shows (and Hennings listed the '68-72 Vette as a major target). So I thought I'd post and see what was planned. I accept that there is no security, and given that, it will be my decision to attend or not. For those with faith that nothing will happen ever, I envy you - as I have had a collector car stolen and 2 damaged in hit and run while parked in lots...so I apologize if I'm a wimp, or unfaithful, or a crybaby, but I have to be a realist - thus my inquiry into lot security.

Just for info... I'm sure it's gone up since 2000.

So no cars were stolen in Carson City? I'm moving tomorrow!
Seriously, just curious, what about GTA?

Hey Guys
I understand the concern about theft of our vette's, that is why I went with
the Viper alarm ($500.00) which has a built in pager that let's you see
where the brake-in is taking place and also an Electric kill switch. That's
about as good as it gets. As we all know, if the they want it its gone.
See you guys in Carson City

I can assure you that security is NOT my motive. I camp because
1.- I enjoy it.
2.- I would rather spend my money on the Vette than me.
If the hotel would let me sleep in the parking lot and then come in and take a shower, I would.
Because DaveM and I will be sharing a room at Carson City, that is a possibility.
If we were staying at a big City with a known high crime rate, I would be concerned. But I also understand other members concerns and respect that.
If we want to take Ben's suggestion and post a sentry at the parking lot from midnight to 6 AM, working on 2 hour shifts, I would volunteer for that.
I am open to other ideas.

My apologies to everyone on this forum, but especially VNCRUISER, Lowbrowser, and Adam! While I understand some of the comments in my post could be, and probably were, construed as insulting, I wish to assure everyone that that was not my intention.
I hope my public humiliation and sincerity shine through on this post and are not again misconstrued in any way. The last thing I want to do is cause bad feelings with any of the forum members.
The people on this site are terrific, and I am ashamed that my post had to be edited like that. Again, I apologize, and promise never to do it again.
