I remember seeing Eddie 70 post a message on one of the "vote" threads, concerning the "Tail of the Dragon" route, in Tenn. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I knew I had heered of it 'afore. Well, NOW I remember!! It is listed on our local 'Vette club's site. Some of the folks in our club have run this road, and like it. But, it is not for the faint of heart, apparently!
Here's a link,, if anyone would like to check it out, and maybe some brave souls would like to make it part of their " adventure", during the "Gathering"! Just the names of some of the sections makes me wonder about some people!

That looks and sounds great to do.   We both wouldn't mind doing it.  Just don't know if we will have time.   And depends on what Adam has us all doing at the gathering.  The Dragon looks very slow drive and would then take awhile from start to finish.  We'll keep this on the books and see where we stand when everything comes available.

I think it would make a great evening drive. That time of the year and location, it must still be light out at 10pm

I've done the Dragon many times over the years. It truly is a hoot.

If others want to go during the gathering, I'm game.

Count me in, do I need to bring my helmet? I mean, is this a timed course? Iron82 what do you mean a slow drive? 12 miles of G force curves in a corvette? It will bring back my memories of the  Anchorage Sports car club, weekend Autocross, when they would shutdown a local in town airport so we could use the runways..I love that, Thats what a corvette is built for, ground hugging handling and acceleration in the corners, sorry, back to reality. Sure my wife and I would love to take a pleasant drive with you guys down a windy road, har, har, har..Terry spielman538732.8845023148

As I read the initial post I knew you had to be talking about Deals Gap!  Never rode it in my vette because a motorcycle is just too much more fun.  Rode it both ways 23 times. It is definately a rush, short of being on a road course.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

I'm all for the scenic route if I'm able to make the trip.

If I read the map right, "The Tail" is only about 12 miles long, so how long can it take to drive it!  Pity it doesn't give altitudes.  Save you gas going down, for the trip back up!

Wouldn't want anything to break on that run though.

As far as activities go for the gathering, don't we all feel that DRIVING is one of the best activities you can do when you get a bunch of Vette owners together?!  Why should the Harley owners have all the fun?

The Dragon is 11 or so miles long. It is a twisty turny road, look at the map posted by Adam's Apple. There are people that go up and see how fast they can run the Dragon. Once you get to the end of the Dragon you can turn around and go back up the Dragon or go out the Cherohala Skyway. It will be a nice smooth relaxing ride after the Dragon and then back up to Pigeon Forge. If you do both they call it the loop. Here is a map of the loop.
