Hmmmm.... I thought the object of having the gathering in May or Sept. was so we would not have to deal with the summer tourist crowds so we could go wherever we wanted. Why is that still a determining factor?? Confused
What is there to do in Dallas in May you ask? There's hundreds and hundreds of miles of concrete and steel to look at like any other big city. No scenery unless you like mesquite trees, and traffic, JEEZ! Yeah, it's only 2 hrs from me but not my idea of a fun trip, good roads to drive, beautiful scenery or any of that. The mountains in Arkansas sound like a much better choice if that's all we have.

I picked Hot Springs of course...

However I should point out that AK is Alaska, not Arkansas (AR).  I am glad you picked here instead of Eureka/Branson.  This area is much more accomadating to groups.  I work at the Oaklawn Race Track here (horses not cars) and the population of this city doubles during our live race meet.  The meet is mid Jan to Mid Apr, outside of that time there is alot fo empty hotel capacity at reasonable prices.  From here you have scenic Highway 7 that runs right through town.   We have a corvette show every year and two different Hog rally's and other events.

I will warn that you DO NOT under any circumstances want to be here during the race meet.  Traffic is BAD from Jan 1 to May 1 then like magic it clears up till next year.

I like Arkansas or Kansas, but if we end up going to Dallas, I hope we are on the outskirts, not downtown.
I looked up Hot Springs AK and found 8 of them, but they were all in Alaska!!!! I didn't think that was one of the mid-states.Ouch

No mattter where we go, I'm going to plan a few days in Branson, either before or after the Gathering. I don't want to travel that far and not stop for a few days.

From the Minnesota perspective, any of those locations will be god awlful hot in July or August.

I voted AR lots smaller town and great roads to drive on. I live in DC area and need slower pace like AR. Thanks

I fixed the state abbreviation. Thanks for pointing that out. I keep getting AK, AR & AZ confused!

And I agree with the comment about Dallas. I don't think any of us want to stay downtown. So if Dallas wins, I'll find something on the outskirts.
