I don't think you are grasping what Adam is trying to say. NCM decided to have the event, its their baby, not the C3VR.
They simply asked Adam to co-market the event on a "All C3 web group" since this event is a C3 Event. NCM would have held this event regardless of where C3VR decided to have their annual meeting. NCM is going to have this event next year regardless of where we have our annual meeting.
Is that making sense? Because lots of clubs have their anual meetings at national events. It doesn't have anything to do with the event, as much as the event makes it more enticing for members to come out if there are things to do.
Adam making the effort to block rooms, secure the meeting place, and other things was a benefit to the C3VR members so they would all be in the same place and be able to spend the most time together and to make the event and the c3vr meeting more enjoyable as a group.
Adam, good job!

Well, let me tell you what makes sense to me:
First, I need to qualify a bit just where my opinion comes from. I coordinate two of Corvette Forum's largest, if not the largest, regional events. (Spring and Fall Skyline Drive Corvette Cruises.) Although they each draw 100 Corvettes or more (150-180 people), I get the same handful of people that offer to help each time. Generally, the help I get is on the day of the cruise, although I'm fortunate that I have family to help assemble goodie bags and transport the stuff to the cruise for me. I live over 3 hours away from where the cruise begins so I can tell you from experience that pulling off a large event far from home is no picnic. My specific responsibilities include obtaining door prizes, assembling goodie bags, coordinating with the benefitting charities, sponsors, restaurants, local police, etc. Although I am certainly not the only person to do such things, I really do have an idea of what is involved in pulling off a major regional event.
I think that Adam W. did a great job coordinating this C3VR event.
Let's discuss next year's potential meeting. This year, our venue was the NCM. All money was handled by them and all events, other then our meeting, were coordinated by them. Someone has to do these things next year. Someone has to secure a meeting venue. We'll probably have to pay for a meeting room as well. Someone will have to scout the area for restaurants, motels and a meeting venue. If you want a people's choice car show, then someone will have to set that up as well. Road tours? Another job for someone. (Sounds like Adam will be a busy boy next year...)
Do we need all those extra things just to have a meeting? Of course not. But, if we have people already complaining that there aren't enough vendors attending this thing, how many people do you think would be willing to drive over 1,000 miles each way for just a dinner meeting if we moved it to the central US? Or it was moved further west, how many people would drive 1,500 miles or more in their sharks for a dinner meeting? How many westerners would drive 3,000 miles to the northeast just for a dinner meeting? I guess you could leave your shark home, but that's not as much fun...
Now, about "someone"... (You know, the event helper.) How many people here are members of local clubs? Is everyone in those clubs active? Does everyone help? Of course not. It's the same core of people that do pretty much all of the work, all of the time. Same thing with online clubs. Adam is passionalte about this club. He won't let things go undone. That means that he'll be pretty busy next year setting up the meeting, etc. He may get some help from someone, but I think it's safe to say that he'll be swamped.
I'm not very active here (or anywhere for that matter) so mybe I should have known that this would be an event that moved from venue to venue. But, I didn't know and was surprised to hear that while sitting in the NCM.
So, I'll tell you what makes sense to me:
Getting all the help you can makes sense to me.
Choosing a venue that will draw the majority of the active members makes sense to me.
Choosing a venue that has something for everyone makes sense to me.
Choosing a venue that suports a great charity makes sense to me.
And did I mention that getting all the help you can makes sense to me???

Here's my $.02.
Attend the C3 Extravaganza next year in October at the NCM. It was a great 3 days and next year will be even better. Put it on your calendar now.
Adam said he would start a thread on where the members would like to have the C3VR annual meeting. Everyone can vote for their favorite location. NE, SE, MW,NW, SW, where ever.
Then let's tie the meeting in with a national event that is already planned to be held in that location. Carlisle, Bloomington Gold, etc. Again, all the members can vote on this.
That will give us a place and date. Depending on where it is, Adam can solicit local volunteers from C3VR and local clubs to do some of the event planning that NCM staff did, like cruises, dinners, points of interest, C3 show, etc. It shouldn't be hard to get a meeting place for a 2 hour meeting. Probably for free.
If we can have this pinned down by Jan. 2005, it will give everyone time to put it into their schedule for 2005.
Adam W.- Can you give everyone one vote between now and say Nov. 20 to select their favorite region.
And then until Dec. 20 to select a national event in the winning region?
Would this work?

We will be there. Have the room at the Hapton Inn. Just need to get registered.
On a side note, I went to my club meeting last night and one of the members just returned from the plant tour and saw the c6's being made. According to him from info from the plant, the 1st 300 C6's are just test cars for the workers. They are completed and then sent, complete, to the crusher.
