The brainstorm follows;
IMHO, C3 'Vettes are not much fun on the Interstates.
On final approach to the Knoxville area from I-40 West or I-75 near the I-40 Interchange get off the SuperSlab and cruise scenic Hwy 321 through Maryville and Townsend to Pigeon Forge. You will miss Knoxville's construction and bustle also avoid the stop and go tourist traffic from I-40 thru Sevierville to Pigeon Forge.
Coming east on I-40 from Nashville, get off just before the I-75 Interchange at Hwy 321 North (maybe east). I think there is a sign stating "Best route to the Smokies", believe me.... it is. If you miss the turn get off 40 and go south on I-75 at the next exit then take the Hwy 321 exit in about a mile.
Coming north on I-75 from Chattanooga and GA get off at the 321 exit toward Maryville.
If time permits when you get to Townsend on 321 and want more scenic twisties, 321 will take a left on the far outskirts of Townsend and Hwy 73 will go straight. Take 73 straight through Gatlinburg to PF. It is a neat twisty road along a scenic river that takes another 20 -30 minutes to PF.
These routes are not the "Tail-of-the-dragon", but a great prelude to it. They beat the crap out of the SuperSlab......
