I couldn't find much on this so I thought I would write up a short procedure for the booster removal

                   BRAKE BOOSTER REMOVAL

After Ken mentioned I should check the booster for a vacuum leak I decided to replace it. After all, it was 32 years old.Wink

Remove the master cylinder from the booster is pretty straight forward.

Get your frustrations out of the way first, jump up and down, scream, and throw something whatever works.LOL

Don’t bother with the plate in the window wiper well, there is no access.

Remove your driver seat, will make life much easier. I couldn’t, the vette had its engine removed and the left side was only 2 feet off the garage wall.

Crawl under the dash with a 3/8” socket, ¼ drive and remove the neutral safety switch. It’s a pain to remove but if you don’t you won’t be able to see or get to the left top booster nut.

Get a 9/16 deep socket and attach a swivel joint to it. Then add a 6” extension and attach your ratchet. Go after the left top on first as it is the hardest. You will need to slide the socket over the top of the clutch pushrod. You may also need to unfold the harness retainer that is high up on the kick panel side near the fuse box and move the harness down.

Now go after the other three nuts which are not too bad.

Remove the clip on the pin which attaches the brake push rod to the brake pedal.

Now you can remove the booster.

Boy am I glad that’s done!phew

always glad to see some tips on these things as this winter want to install a chrome booster on my 75. saw another post on here that said if you drop the speedometer panel and a long extension that was about the easiest way. when i do mine i will have to compare both ways and decide which is easier. thanks for the info.

I saw that too, but with a 4 speed the clutch pedal and related stuff is in the way. I dropped the steering wheel and lowered the dash down. Still could not see the stud or even get my socket close. Removal of the dash is a lot of work and I always dread doing it. I think it may have been an automatic vette. If the clutch pedal and interlock switch were not there it would have been much easier.

Way Cool!
I'll have to take a look on mine to see my dash is out but it was a huge pita to get out.

I did the Long Exstension and Removed the dash Method.  After you put the Universal between the Socket and the Exstension wrap in in Electrical Tape so that it can still bend but will Hold the Socket up so You can feed it on to the Nut. Pick a Day when there isn't any Reason to be in a Good Mood at the end of it. Richard........
