Eric, I just checked, I've got a wire(two connected like speaker wire almost) running from the wire loom by the left headlight under the front of the hood and up along the driver's side of the hood further outboard then where the hood blanket should be(as opposed to hon the floor of the garage waiting for me). This wire goes most of the way to the top but dissapears up there. Any thoughts anyone? I had always assumed it was factory, but i don't know.

I've got the same on my "75. I had heard it's for the "induction intake" (something like that). There must be a flap under the hood. I don't know how its supposed to work. I guess the force of the wind hitting the windshield and going down into the engine.
With a wire it must get power from somewhere.

There should be an air induction valve solenoid in the hood. It is located close to the grilled loovers at the rear edge of the hood. When the accelator pedal is pushed to the floor a switch mounted under the dash is closed and voltage is applied to the solenoid and opens the valve, allowing hi pressure and cooler air to the air cleaner.
I don't believe an under the hood light was available from the factory in 1975, it can be added, I did on my 73.

Well how about that for somethin' else!
Guess I'd always been wrong ;) Time to go figure out if this thing works and if not get it fixed up...more horses are always welcome in this stable!

I believe the underhood light first appeared in 77 as part of the ZX2 convience group option. It seems as tho most Vettes came through with this option from 77 to 79, probably a dealer favorite. 80 up probably standard with the higher prices. And it's mounted down near the hood support. Mike
The easy way to see if it works is to raise the hood, push the gas pedal all the way to the floor, engine not running, and listen for the solenoid/valve to move. You made need a second person to push the gas pedal. Second way is to measure any voltage on both wires going to the solenoid.
