I think you are talking about the Rear Spoiler and the OEM spoiler was Urathane...NOT Fiberglass...
My 79 did come from the factory with the 78 pace car spoilers and I initally replaced the rear spoiler with a fiberglass one...sent it back and purchased a Urathnae because of "fit" issues.
That said I still get a "lump" that moves with the angle of the sun with the Urathane... Actually a conversation piece in my opinion.. normally the "lump" is on the left BUT will move across to the right as the sun moves ...

This is what i was told when i went looking for paint remover for the urethane bumpers. " after using this product , if you experence any warpage , submerge the whole piece in ice cold water. The original shape well soon be back". I noticed when using the stripper, it made it a bit warm.So i dunked it in a kiddy pool with a few bags of ice...and i could'nt beleve it..about 15 minutes later, it looked brand new , and all the warpage dissapeared. You can get this product from an auto paint suply store....made by Bondo....and it comes in a spray can.
