Vette(s): 1980 Corvette, White/Claret leather, L48,Rally Wheels, rear defog, Auto. #2800 very early with 11000 original miles.2nd ownor.
I have a very early 1980 #2800, 11000 mile original car. I have a question concerning the four rubber allignment bumpers located in the rain rails of the hood opening. This item is not shown in the aasmbly manual or any other place I have looked. Everybody's repro shows the bumpers with a metal tab for holdown with a screw however my car is early and used what I believe are the 1979 version held down with adhesive. There are no holesin the rain rails. I am missing two and have purchased a set from Corvette Central. No one can tell me specifically where the should be positioned. Can anyone help with dimensions and or pictures.
Thanks
Wayne

The rubber bumpers are only necessary if you need to push the hood edge up level with the fender edge. There is no special location, only where they may be needed. Sometimes you need to shave some material off the bottom side to get the height you might need. Also, don't raise the hood edges near the windshield too much as you may bind the hood latches. Wouldn't want to break the release cable. I have 2 78's and a 79 and the bumpers are in no particular places, just where they are needed. And mine are all glued, I didn't think any year had them bolted. Mike

Vette(s): 1982 Collector Edition, color is silver/beige.
Wayne:

On my 82CE the rubber alignment bumpers were attached by soft aluminum rivets. I used the weatherstripping adhesive to remount new ones last year. They haven't come off yet.

In looking at all my cars yesterday, I noticed that the first bumper from the front is about even with the carb wingnut. I say ABOUT. If you look at the rail you notice that towards the front of the opening there is a height difference. The bumpers would of course do no good in this area. Two of the cars had bumpers about 3 or 4 inches from the end of the rail near the wiper opening. One had on just one side. In 3 examples on the drivers side;1 car had first block even with front of master cylinder, 2nd car was even with front of power brake booster, 3rd car near back edge of master cylinder. 1 car had 3 on one side, one car had 2 two inches apart and none near the wipers. I'm sure this is more info than you need but like I said above, they go where they're needed. Put them in without glue so you can move them around after seeing how the hood closes. Mike
