On the upper rear deck of my 78 S. A. there are 4 holeswith black rubber inserts. I have gotten a long list of explanations as to what these are for, from luggage racks, to T top holders. (If the 4holes were connected by straight lines, they would form a trapezoid).
Are they original equipment, or did somebody want to put a homemade spoiler on?I have seen one picture in all,my looking that has what appears to be an odd-shaped spoiler on it.
Lastly, If I go for a paint job, should I grind, fill, and recoat?
Thanks, Gang!
Greg

RPO V54, "Roof Panel Carrier" was available from the factory in 1980. Some were retrofitted to the earlier cars, and there were some aftermarket designs, also. These racks were intended to only be used to store the t-tops, not for any type of luggage, as the earlier, flat deck cars had.
If you're REALLY lucky, you may be able to find a real V54 rack for sale somewhere(e-bay, swap meets, etc.), but be prepared to pay dearly for a complete setup.

I have a set complete with the vinyl storage bag and the straps.
These are original and in very good condition. The bag has a stain on it from something placed in the storage compartment and one snap is missing on the bag.
I'll take $300.00 for the set plus shipping from Anaheim. CA.
I can email photos to anyone interested.

The pic above is of one of the "Peter Max" Corvettes.
I don't have a clue where that rack came from, but it don't look like the factory set-up to me. That looks more like an aftermarket deal.
I have been wrong, before, tho...I think...

Thanks, Larry, Joel and Ron.
Now I know what I am missing.
Looks like a designer got mad and wanted to spoil the lines of a 78! Either that or it's a handy tool for UFO's to pick up vettes one by one...
Greg.
