Vette(s): 1971 T-top. I just had car shipped from my parents house in florida where it has sat for over 12 years..It is going to be a long project!
I thinking ahead about putting things back togeter...well I noticed that in my 71 the seats/tracks sit directly on just fiberglass ie not metal on floor board. Is this normal for other years too. Has there ever been anyone here that has had anything come up through the floor while driving?? What concerns me is say going 90mph down the highway with only that small piece of glass between my legs and what ever is on the road???

Yes, all Vette floors were just 'glass until '75-76 when they did put a steel "panel" in them. That was mostly done to reduce the amount of heat inside, due to the cat. convertor. The seats & seatbelts are anchored to steel pieces, tho, for all models. If you look under the car, you will see these. I have never heard of anything coming up thru the floor, but I'm sure it's happened, but not too often. If the flywheel/clutch explodes, it will come thru, but I had that happen on a '57 Chevy one time, and trust me, the steel there did'nt stop it!
Drive & enjoy your Vette, and watch where you go!!

I don't believe they will, BUT......with a heat wrench, hammer, and enough 'glass, anything is possible!!
I'd check with places like Paragon, and aks them. I'm sure they know if it's do-able.

Ben, I was thinkinh the same thing...maybe a piece of sheet metal that can take a little
and then some of the sound material...

I know it has. A few years ago a friend's wife was driving home in their Honda Accord on the freeway in the middle lane during rush hour doing around 70 mph with traffic. She didn't recall if the parts flew off of the car in front of her or if that car ran over them, but all of a sudden there was most of an exhaust system laying on the road in front of her. Because there were cars on either side of her and one tailgating behind she had no choice but to run over the junk. One end of the pipe she ran over came through the passenger side floorboard almost as high as the bottom of the dashboard. Luckily she was by herself AND it didn't come through the driver's side floor. One can only guess what would have happened had she been unlucky and gotten hit by that.

Check out Doc's newest catalog, p 108 part#8153320, these actually came on 68 and69's. It's called an underbody shield. I bought them for mine and it's fairly stout sheet metal. Below that on the same page are firewall shields, but these are a thick plastic.

im pretty sure they only came on the big blocks..
im missing one of mine.. so ill probably replace both.. but they arent enough..
feet are still too toasty
Ben, Dyno mat extreme is the stuff you need. Add like 3 layers of that stuff on the floor and you will not have heat and noise coming up through the floor. It gets expensive though. I used it all over my vette when I did my carpets and it made it 150% better.
