One other thing before you start driving it too much. Jack up the rear end at the bottom of the pumpkin and go to each rear tire. Grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to move it toward and away from the car. This will tell you a great deal about your bearings and trailing arms. The tighter the better.
Hopefully, you'll find no movement.
If it moves a BUNCH, GET IT FIXED FIRST. It's really bad form to be passed by your rear tire...

My 2 cents and Im definately the wrong one to ask because I just put 15k into an 81! LOL.. My 81 is the car I wanted in college exact color and spec its near perfect not ncrs but a #2. I did this because it made me happy. I figure I'll have it until im rightside up...

Now the 72, I LOVE the BB 72s. A #2 cond car we JUST sold for 56k (it was a roadster though). A strong #2 coupe we figure we'd get mid 40s. The shop woulda paid 13k for a numbers BB 69-72 with a good motor, your ok.. Heres our fast math
10k for paint/interior and misc cosmetics
3k for a complete rear rebuld
2k for suspension and brakes
750.00 for mani back exhaust
1.5k for misc
In total for the shop to make a car solid #2 we figure 14-17k shipping the paint out. Our 20second rule of thumb is if the frame is ok and the interior doesnt smell the windshield is ok. The door, dollars to doughnuts condensation creeped in. As the others said, i'd undo the interior panel and have lottsa wd40.
Bottom line is you will have a GREAT car when your done, You'll be in the right way financially, ITS A 454.
Have lotsa pizza, a cooler of beverage and your bro's will all be over!
ENJOY THIS JOURNEY! I wish I had the hands and space to do this myself.
