Topic: 72 Rear Letters

The PO decided to remove the CORVETTE letters , refill the holes and Paint. I really like the look of the rear letters. Without redrilling the holes and possiblly missing - I was considering removing the studs from the back of the letters - then using 3M double face tape to adhere the letters to the rear.
ANY Thoughts or suggestions

Here is my two cents.
Usually when they fill such holes they just allow the filler to squirt through the back side. As a result if you crawl under the car and look up to where the letters should be, the locations of the letters should be obvious. If this is the case, you might be able to push a very thin sharp object like a straight pin through where the filler is sticking out. Use a thimble when pushing the straight pin through.
Once you have done that on all locations, you can go back to the outside and carefully use the correct size drill bit to open the holes back up. There may be a risk of the filler coming out and depending on how large or if they beveled out the hole, there may be an area that the letters can not cover up. Be careful and gentle.
To help with accessing that area, the bottom filler panel under the bumper can be removed with four bolts. You will also need to take the exhaust hangers down to remove phillips head screws that are attached to the body/lower quarter panel via the exhaust bezel. There are four screws but you will only have to remove the two that attach to the quarter panel. They are the easier two to get to. Once the four bolts are out and he phillips screws removed you will have fairly good access to the rear panel where the letters go. Once drilled out just attach the letters and they will be in the factory location.
My experiance with tape is that on small pieces like the letters ,they will be difficult to line up and will not stick long term.
That having been said. The "Stingray" emblem was located with holes but the factory used two sided tape.
