HAS ANYONE REPLACED A BUMPER COVER ON A 74 UP? I JUST REPLACED MY REAR COVER WITH THE 2 PIECE DESIGN THAT WAS FACTORY. I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE FIT AND FINISH. THE BODY LINES DONT MATCH UP WITHOUT DOING WORK ON THE NEW COVER. ALSO THE HOLES DRILLED BY THE MFG DONT MATCH WITH THE BODY. I HAVE A RELATIVE IN THE BODY BUSINESS, BUT IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF WORK TO MAKE IT LOOK PERFECT. I ALSO USED THE FIBERGLASS REPLACEMENTS. I AM PLANNING ON DOING THE FRONT BUMPER IN A MONTH OR SO. SO I AM LOOKING FOR ANY EXPERIENCE YOU MAY HAVE HAD WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF MATERIALS USED FOR BUMPER COVERS.

Where did you get you bumper covers from? I heard Ecklers' bumper covers were supposed to fit pretty good because they had purchased the original tooling from GM. I'll probably be replacing my front bumper cover on my '77 this summer and I was looking to get when from them.

I BOUGHT THE 2 PIECE FIBERGLASS FROM CORVETTE CENTRAL THRU CONTEMPORARY CORVETTES. THAT IS WHY I AM LOOKING FOR ANOTHER SUPPLIER. OF COURSE 74 IS THE ONLY YEAR THAT THE 2 PIECE FIBERGLASS WAS USED. I WILL BE BUYING THE FRONT BUMPER COVER VERY SOON AND I AM TRYING TO GET A RECOMMENDATION FOR WHAT TO USE THERE, AS I DONT WANT TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT. HERE IS A HINT THAT I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY. WHEN YOU BUY YOUR BUMPER COVER, INVEST IN ALL NEW MOUNTING CLIPS, IT MAKES THE JOB SO MUCH EASIER. I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY.

I'll definitely look into the new clips when I replace my front bumper. I'm looking into getting the truflex bumper from Ecklers. I think it is supposed to be a fiberglass/urethane mix that way it is stronger than the urethane, but also has some flexibility.

I am planning on buying a front bumper for my 74 soon. I would like to know which material is best before I spend $300+ on it though. So if you buy one, let me know how it goes on. Body fit and alignment can be a real problem.

Yeah, I hear some people got a great fit doing nothing and others had a really tough time getting it to fit.
