I had made a post a long time ago regarding my front bumper to see if there were any ideas to fix it. At that time, it had about 4 cracks through it, but was still holding together. Now it is officially shot!! Most of the right side had fallen off the middle is bad, and the left side is severly cracked too. I found out that it wasn't the original bumper on there from my Uncle (he was the previous owner, and had it replaced). I'll be home in just over a month and depending on whether or not I can get an internship this year I'll be getting a new bumper. I can't afford the original urethane bumpers from Ecklers that are about $550-$600, I don't want to get another $200 economical substitute because I found out that didn't work too well, and I don't want the solid fiberglass for $300 because I want it to have a little flex incase of a bump. That leaves me with one option... the Flex-Fit for $330. Has anybody had/heard any good/horror stories of this bumper? Mostly about how it fit. I'd like to avoid the extra cost of having a body shop put it on. I usually have bad luck with things working easily so I imagine it'll be in the shop for filler and stuff like that. But any info on the flex-fit? I'd appreciate it. Thanks for reading the long post!!

Vette(s): 1976 Stingray, L48 auto Buckskin/Buckskin Leather originally. Numbers matching.
I just bought a flex glass front bumber cover for my '76, I just slipped it over the bumper, and right away could see that it was not going to be as easy as I thought. The front edge of the body will need some "adjusting" to make the bumper fit properly. I've seen were "flexable" fiberglass bumpers are advertised as 70% more flexable. I doubt it. I have a glass rear cover, and the "flexable" glass front, and it is a little more flexable, but it is still gonna take some work for a good fit.
A PolyU front would have gone on with a lot less work.
How long ago was the original replaced, the newer Urethane is "supposed to be" better quality than those of old. Also if the proper paint/primer combo isn't used, it can fry the urethane. My '76 was repainted twice before I got it, and I believe that is what happened to it. I have had multiple '78 to '81 Camaro's & T/A's, and not one of them had a problem with the urethane bumpers. My Vette though, the original PolyU bumper was so hard, I simply took it apart in little pieces before removing the retainers.
Each Vette is different though, as they are built in a jig. Yours may not need hardly any "adjusting". Look at the surface that the bumper covers mates too, if it looks pretty flat and straight, I don't think you would have much trouble.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to get an estimate on the job now. I don't think I can handle any body work. The bumper on there now was replaced 12 years ago (i think that would be a good guess)... the car was also repainted too so maybe that was also a cause. I think that the cheapest urethane was put on though, which is $200 from Ecklers, so I'm trying to avoid the cheap route. I guess I'll see how it fits up first, and then when I realize I can't do it.. off to the shop it will go. Thanks.
