I have a question about my '78, it's not perfect and seems to have the correct body parts. Its build date is in Nov '77. The rocker panels are aluminum color with a black stripe ('77 and earlier style) and the front windshield/ rear window molding are bare metal. When I look in Ecklers and other catalogs they have the black rockers with the silver strip listed for the '78.  I have seen '78's with the front winshield molding black and the rear glass bare and I have also seen both painted or bare. Which are correct. Please help!

Thanks
Confused

Mike(mkapp7879) prolly knows this one...
It's possible an early build like yours could have been built with the earlier stuff, but...Nov. ain't exactly REAL early...
Anyone have a Judging Guide for '78?

I agree.  It's possible they had a supply of rocker panels and other trim left over following the end of the 77 model year run.  They would have used them on the early '78s.

On the regular production 78s the window trim, front, should be black, not polished. The rear window trim is USUALLY black AND polished(see pic) except for 78s with VINs from about 5000-11000. This run of 78s most likely has all polished rear window trim. Pace Cars have all black.
The rocker panels are black with the polished top. This is specifically mentioned in some 78 advertising and GM specs. Special mention is also made of the polished with black stripe rockers on the limited edition Pace Car.
79s went with all black window trim, front and rear.

Thanks for all the answers. this has been bugging me since I got the car. My car is #13140. and when I got it, the previous owners had air shocks on it, so who knows. The rockers are going to be a moot point since I am in the process of adding sidemout headers. When I do repaint I would like the window molding correct.

Thanks again,

Mike...

I have a suggestion, if you're not looking for "factory correct"...

Paint the mothers satin black. They will look a heck of a lot cooler contrasting the beautiful yellow of your vette.

By the way...interesting name. Are you a golfer, or were you a master gunner in the military?  Just curious.

Either way, have fun with your baby...she's beautiful.

Thanks Alan,

That is my plan now to paint them black. I am a Bradley Master Gunner or Mike Golf. I am am currently at Walter Reed after a Incident with an Afghan boy that wanted to meet Allah. Doing better everyday.
