The headlight doors on my 82 stopped working suddenly. they open easily by hand and they close together. What is the most common problem? Help!

The actuators have rubber diaphrams that wear out over time. You might also check your vaccum hoses for leaks.

I bought a kit from Corvette Central that is fairly simple to follow.

The headlights work fine on my 79 |cheers|

Hello...My Headlight Doors aren't functioning either. Was that the 8.00 Actuator Rod Seal Kit from Corvette Central? I was considering doing that before paying $200 for new actuators. Did you have to remove the hood for easier access to work on them? thanks for your time! |headscratch| |

You don't have to remove the hood but you will remove the grilles. I believe there's a good step by step article on the "www.corvettemagazine.com" website in their archives/technical section.

Vette(s): 1981 Vette named Betty as the wife says I spend more time and money with her!!! LOL I have done extensive work to the engine and always have trouble as a result LOL
Here is a troubleshooting tip...
Disconnect the red hose and connect a vacuum pump if it holds then both the internal and the external seals are good but if it drops pressure then re-reconnect the red and disconnect the green hose and hook up a vacuum pump if it holds the internal diaphram is good, and the cause of the leak is the rear sealing grommet; but if you lose pressure the internal diaphram is leaking and guess what get out the credit card for the order. Good Luck with yours I am still fighting with my Lights hope this helps some.... |cheers|
