The air dam under the front of my 81 is bent up in the middle, forming an inverted "V".  There is a sort of skid plate in the middle under the nose, and the air dam is sort of jammed behind it.  My shop manual does not show a picture of this area, and I wonder whether the fiberglass/rubber air dam should be behind, below, or through the  D-shaped part of that nose protector thing.
Any help appreciated - it looks funky!

Thanks for the pic! I was having a hard time picturing what you were describing.
Looks to me like the car centered on something...possibly a parking curb.
Looks to me like you should be able to pull the whole mess right back down without too much trouble. You may have to remove the "skid plate" to get it down, tho.
Perhaps someone here with an '80-81 can take a look at theirs, and maybe take a pic, too.

I see that you like curbs also!!!!

My 81, are you talking about the rubber black part that runs the length of the front lower "bumper?  That plate in the front center is there for a very specific purpose as you have discovered.  Pm> me your email and I will send you a picture of the front lower undercarrage of my 81 "shark"  Maybe it will help to answer your questi0on.  I have a 81 shop manual also.

I think that I understand your question now!!  The front air dam is in front of the metal pad in the center of the front end.  Is that what you want to know???????

Thanks, DSKOPP, that's what I needed to know.
Of course, now I think I have a serious job to get things rearranged.
Maybe I could <back> over a curb 8-)
