(just like some people I know)
Found the relay in the passenger rear compartment. I have power to both the relay side and orange for down when the radio is off. I have the factory am-fm-cb so my antenna is even harder to find aftermarket. Is there a disconnect connector close to the antenna or do I need to cut the wires. I plan to eventually (cooler weather) pull the antenna and bench test to figure out if the limit switches or motor is the problem. Is there a special tool to take the antenna out or just screwdriver and hammer to loosen the four prong bolt?

On the non-CB power unit, there is a pigtail coming out of the antenna motor. In my purchasing of 78-79 power antennas, I have found a couple of working power CB units. I can try to find the paperwork out in the shop if you want, but no guarantee. There is one C3VR member that has a lot of knowledge on these antennas, and he will probably see your post next Monday evening, 7/12, and give you a solid answer.

Can you put your ear to the fender and hear the motor run? If you can hear it run through a cycle and turn off both up and down then the motor should be OK. Stuck in the up position is usually a broken nylon "leader". I've seen NOS antennas that have bad leaders, brittle like uncooked spagetti noodles! So 24 years under the Vette near the muffler can't be very good for it either. With the switch(I believe the CB equipted use a separate switch and not the radio knob, correct me if I'm wrong)in the down position, can you move the mast down at all? Just a little? Don't force it, tho. If you can move it a little and you can hear the motor run then that's probably the problem. It's an easy fix. Ecklers has the replacement leader. Part no. 29286. You drill out the rivets to the motor housing to separate it and replace them with small bolts and nuts. Like Boatman said, there should be a 3 wire pigtail with a connector at the antenna housing. If you don't see it, the rubber grommet going to the interior may have been "split" allowing someone to have moved it to inside the interior. Just pull the grommet and you should find it. Only one bracket holding the unit at the bottom, top is only held in place with the chrome bezel. Sounds like you have that flat one with the 4 slots in it. Don't think you want to hit it with a hammer tho. There is no gasket under it so the paint may get scratched. I have a cheapy homemade "wrench" I made that I could mail you if you promise to send it back! Let me know how it goes. Also, when you remove the antenna, do NOT turn on the CB radio.

Thanks for the tips guys. I do not hear the motor at all but will check one more time. I cannot move the antenna up or down by hand. When the radio is turned on, the power hits a relay which normally activates the antenna. I will pull the grommet to hopefully find a connector (I would hate to cut the wires). Can I remove the antenna from the bottom of the car without removing the top grommet?
