My guess is that your radio works and the antenna not going up.

Could be fuse, ground or motor not working.   Have a person laying near the antenna motor listening to any noise from the antenna while you switch it on and off.  If you hear the power motor running two things.   The motor gears broke or the antenna is getting held back by something.

Hope this helps.

Also check the antenna wire that is hooked up to the radio from behind the dash.   Iron822007-01-28 20:30:11

Another thought along with Mikes would be to check the fuse? Or, start to check the wires at the antenna motor because it is common for the "tape" that drives the antenna up and down to break. When this happens the motor continues to run unless you disable the power to it. That is the easest fix in a pinch until it can be repaired. I thought that I read where you had just purchased the car so I thought this might have been a pre-exhisting condition.

Good Luck...

Easiest "fix" when the nylon leader breaks is to reach up under the fender at the antenna and snip a wire. Ya figure you're gonna be pulling it out anyway so why not. I have had to replace that nylon leader in every Vette I've ever owned. They dry out from the heat of the exhaust or harden from lack of use. No way around it, they break whether you drive the car or don't. Part is available from most of the vendors or still from GM.

My antenna broke on my white 79 while I was checking it out to buy, helped with the negotiations!  Mike

Also, I think I remember a ground from the plate holding the whole thing (but I don't have a power antenna, so it could be different).  It's an area where there could be quite a bit of dust.   Might be worth gving it a good brushing/cleaning.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
As a bit of insite,  the radio sends a signal to operate a relay.  The relay will supply power for up or down to move the antenna.  When the antenna reached the end of it's travel, a limit switch in the antenna stops the travel until the relay switches to move it the other direction, then the limit switch trips again.  Hope that helps.
