Vette(s): 1974 Coupe
I am in the middle of restoring my 1st Vette, a 74 coupe. I have done a lot of research as to what is right for it. There is a wealth of info on the net especially here. It pays to really shop round when buying parts. Get catalogs from several places so u can compare as one place will have better deal on some things and another on others. The catalogs are also a good reference guide as they have lots of illustrations. I am planning to buy an assembly manual and have been told they are worth the investment. Also remember you will be amazed how many parts you can find that were used on several other cars built by GM that u can buy for much less when it doesn't say corvette. Also include Ebay in your shopping. I bought a good pair of pillar post trim pieces for $12.50 and they are $45 each from the catalogs. (saved bout $70). I bought Rustoleum Satin black patio furniture paint for my engine compartment @ $4 a can instead of the $10 a can from the catalogs and it looks great and considering I have used 10 cans look at the savings. You can alsoget a lot of parts from your local parts store for less also and always check GM as they still have some parts avail. I can tell you where you can get rebuilt stainless brake calipers for $65 instead of $99 that most places charge, heck I rebuilt 1 of mine for $10. Email me anytime for specific questions. I am not an authority but am learning a lot as I go and while restoring as I have the spare money has taught me how to always find the best deal and lowest price is not always the best deal. I have gotten a lot of my best info from guys that have been there done that. If you have a local Corvette club join it as there will be way more help there than your dues will cost and the new friendships are very enjoyable alone.

I have done a lot of work on my car but I wouldn't call it restored. Go to my web page if it will help you to look at some of teh things involved.
Good Luck with your project.

We just finished a 2 year frame-off rebuild. Like Redwingvette, it isn't a restoration. The car was too far gone to do that.

I stuck to the goal of doing the job right, no matter how many times I had to take something apart and do it over to make it right. Don't cut corners, because you'll find you will just end up fixing it later.

Don't let fustration get you down. |no-no| It will all be worth it when you are finished. Perhaps some of the pictures of our project on our website "Street Vette" link will help. If you run into any problems, someone here will be sure to have the answer.

Good luck. |thumb|

I'm restoring a 76 l48 turbo 350. I pulled out of a barn in the summer and had it running in 15 minutes. I'm pretty far along in the restoration. I'm almost ready ready for paint. I gutted the interior and am recorving the seats. I've done just about everything. From tranny seals to electrical problems.
