Vette(s): 1970 Donnybrook Green/Green Int. 1970 Daytona Yellow/Black Int.
I have a 1971 parts Vette which was produced very early in 1971. It even has the original lense covers which say 1970 on them. I also have a 1970 Vette I'm trying to restore. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I can swap the front and rear of the bodies. The 1971 is in really good shape but must be used as a parts car. The 1970 needs the front and rear of the body replaced. Would this be a pretty easy swap. They look identical. The 1971 even has the clear parking lense, not the amber which came later in 1971. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Kevin,

I'm mega-far from being a qualified person to answer your questions, but from what I've read on the 70-72 models there are very few differences between those three years. Because the '70 production numbers were so low I don't see why you'd have any problems melding your late build '70 with your early build '71.

But do some more research and I'm sure someone here will toss a nickel in the information pot as well.

Kevin,
The bodies are the same, it would not be a problem to mix and match a 70 & 71. The only few differences between them were only the front parking lights(clear 70,amber 71, I have vin 6281 in my 71 and mine are still clear) 71 did not have headlight washers and the tail light lenses were a little different(mine has 70 tail light lenses also)The side vent louvers are different also. Hope this helps you.

Kevin,
Mine also has the 5 port washer pump which is a 70 option for the headlight washers.

As Tom said -- side louvers are similar but finished differently ('70 chrome only vertically whereas '71 chrome both vertically & horizontally across the tips of the "egg crate." I have a late '71 & my parking lenses are amber. Wheel flares are the same in '70 & '71 (unlike '68 & '69).
