Here's two questions for the assembled masses.  I've plum worn out the Internet searching for the answers.  (Yup, if your web cruisin' has slowed to a snail's pace, it's MY fault this time!)  LOL

I recently purchased a B-M front clip (you know, the one with the fixed headlights).  This would pretty much complete my transformation to a clone. The original front clip and the repro B-M hood that comes with it are in transit from NJ to KC as we speak, nestled in a custom crate.  Need a plug here for two NJ members, Paul Lukas (Lukesvette) and BobOvette, both of whom were kind enough to offer help during the shipping process.  What a family this is!!  Hug

Question 1:  From what model car does the HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (e.g., bucket and chrome ring)come from to fit this front clip?

Question 2: They say the GILL SLITS were reversed (stick out, not in) on the side vents.  Any ideas for a source for these gill slits?  Will I have to mold my own?

So . . . here's your chance to show off yer stuff, you Baldwin-Motion experts.

PS  If I get a reasonable offer for this clip and/or hood, I would consider selling them.  I got them for a REALLY GREAT PRICE. Otherwise . . . I'm just gunna be forced to perform major surgery on my ride.  Not looking forward to that exercise.  Mike

This is from a mag article on B-M Corvettes:
The front end is radical, featuring scoops and headlight buckets that might be from a Datsun 240Z. Even Schorr didn't know. "Most of the cars came through without the covered headlights 'cause DMV rules and regs changed. So only a few of the early cars came through that way," he says.

Apparently, the taillamps are Firebird. The gas cap is LeMans-style. Wheels are Ansen. The bumper and grille are stock. The side louvers are stock but "flipped," and the hood is full custom, making another bold statement about performance.

Ben(cthulhu) had a front end like this one his '69 at one time. He might have some info, and maybe even some of the parts still...

Hi Mike,
I just noticed this post.
As far as the headlights- I believe they are from the jag XKE.
the datsun 240 z was not yet made when Joel started using those headlights.

As far as the reverse gills, I believe Joel just turned them around originally, but then Motion had a set of front quarters with them that was sold though the catalouge. I have a set of front quarters that I bought 2 years ago from corvettes at carlisle. SORRY, NOT FOR SALE.. Unhappy  I was going to cut the gill portion out but could not bring myself to destroy them. I am saving them for the next project.
So i made my own reversed gills. you can see how i did it in my restoration listed with my signature. Let me know if it helps you.
I was tempted many times to buy that front end you have! I just wasn't ready for that big of project of replacing the front end.
I would enjoy seeing what you are doing.
hope this helped.
Joe
PS: please correct me if any of this info is incorrect.

Rosen did indeed actually cut out the fender louvers, and them flip them around so the "gills" would be sticking out. On the front end parts sold across the counter those vents were molded like that to start with, since the mold was taken from a front that had already been "Motion-ized".
The simple way to do this is to just cut the fender around the vents, and flip it around, and then glue it back together. Basically, just cut a square out around the vents...like cutting a hole in the wall or ceiling to install an A/C vent.
A little bonding glue, some grinding/filing, some putty, primer, and paint, and viola!
