I know many of you here are aware of this already but for those who aren't here is a warning.  A buddy of mine with a nice 77 vette coupe installed a chrome breather cover a few weeks back.  He pulled his vette outside to change his oil a couple days ago and parked in the sun.  Yep, many of you know the next line before you read it.  The suns reflection from the breather cover scorched the paint on his hood.  He was physically sick when he found it and it's in the body shop now. Just a warning for those who may doubt or have never heard it; the stories are real. Beware!!!

Got to admit, that's a new one to me. How long did it take to produce that kind of heat?

Chrome air cleaner tops have been doing this for years...that's why I have suggested here in the past to use a white towel on top of the air cleaner when showing outdoors. There are also custom made covers for this...most have the Crossed Flags emblem on them, and they make them for many different size air cleaners.

I sure hate to hear it has happened...

Didn't know this. Thanks for the warning! I have a nice new chrome cover on mine and I would never have known there was a danger until it hit.

Ranger3, I dont think it was over a couple hours to do the damage.  The sun and the chrome breather cover had to be in just the right angle to focus the heat, it left a nice crescent shaped burn.
